PROCESSED ORGANIC WASTE DISPOSAL REGULATIONS Ontario recently introduced new regulations covering the disposal of processed organic wastes, Environment Minister James Auld report -ed. This regulation deals with the application of these sludges on land, specifying the am- ounts that can be applied to various types of soil, during which months of the year, and in what amounts based on a scale of equivalent pounds of nitrogen per year per acre. Contractors who deal in these sludges will have to obtain a Certificate of Approval thr- ough the Ministry's Waste Management Branch to operate a hauling system. Approval certif- icates will also have to be obtained for the various disposal sites. Complete records of the types and volumes of these processed or- ganic wastes applied at each site will have to be kept and these records communicated to the Ministry's Waste Management Branch every month "Expanded programs of nutrient removal in pollution control plants will increase the vol -umes of sludge that will have to be disposed of."
