JUNE 9, 1973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 ANNUAL REPORT PRESENTED AT MEETING The Schreiber-Terrace Bay Association for the Retarded held its annual meeting in the Schrei- ber Public School with Mrs. Peggy Helmink, the president, in charge. In the absence of Mrs. Margaret Santerre, secretary, the minutes were read by Mrs. Geor- gina Cebrario. Mrs. Rita Allen gave the treas- urer's report. Highlights of the annual report were: report on the Flowers of Hope campaign, distribution of church bulletins, place mats to local rest- aurants, and placing flowers on altars in churches; assistance given to the school in Marathon for the trainable retarded; financial assistance given local children attending the school and gifts at Christmas; money sent each month to the Pin Money Fund at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital (Mental Retardation Unit); a booth held at the Schreiber Fall Fair proved highly successful financially and public was keen; the booth will operate this coming fall. Help was given to the local applicants for an Opportunity for Youth project ... summer school for the Retarded Child and pre-school children; a talk was given to a high school class on car- ing for retarded baby and young children. In Memoriam cards are available upon request. A most interesting film, 'If You're Not There You're Missed' by Jean Vanier was shown. The film shows the happy life led by a group of retarded people in a home in France, where to all intent, they lead a normal life, busy with various chores, enjoying good food, attending church in their own chapel, and being gay and relaxed during the social hours. Particularly, for those who can work, such a commune would seem the ideal place, where days can be happy and busy. But to obtain the dedicated workers required to make the plan work might be difficult. Following the meeting tea and cakes and a social hour were enjoyed.
