The name of the building? Watergate Apartments ... In Lisbond recently, Joao da Silva, a 36- year-old mason listed as dead, returned home with a story of his night in the San Jose hos- pital morgue. He still wore the plastic brac- elet with a number which the hospital used for tentative identification. De Silva, it seems, blacked out. He is an epilectic. The next thing he knew he was in a darkened room. He was stretched out under a white sheet and found the bed unusually hard. Around him were seven or eight other persons, also covered with white sheets. He found his clothes beside him, sat up and discovered his bed was made of stone. At that point he realized that the other patients were dead and he was in a morgue. He was able to get out of the building and return home. It seems the hospital had tagged him as dead and sent him to the morgue, presumably for an autopsy In Toronto, the Mynah Bird, a famous nudist club (also known as a real 'clip joint'), they- 're now promoting a Mr. Nude Cabbie contest. The date is June 3rd and that's when the brav- est of Hog Town's I0,000 taxi drivers will bare all. They will be allowed to keep their hats on and will be judged for poise, walking abil- ity and speech -- in reading poetry. At last count, more than 40 cabbies had pledged to take part. When the Mynah Bird first dreamed up the contest, they thought they might get North York's millionaire mayor, Mel Lastman, interests ed. Trouble is, 'Bad Boy' Lastman was fired last week as a Toronto taxi driver, so I guess he won't be taking part ... William Bargo, a 4I-year-old man from Swatz Creek, Mich. recently won the 25th Annual Michigan pipe-smoking championship. Bargo beat 200 other contestants, including IO women, who were given 3.3 grams of tobacco and two matches to determine who could keep the tabacco lit the longest. Bargo's winning puff lasted 98 minut- es and nine seconds. Bargo's prize? A pipe, naturally ... and a colour TV set to rest it on. He will now represent Michigan state in the U.S. national championships in Louisiana, August 4th ... In Bangkok, Thailand, a drunk policeman threatened a friend with a hand grenade during a quarrel recently, but the grenade exploded, killing the policeman, his friend, and IO other persons who were around. Another I2 persons were injured ... Stompin' Tom Conners, who wears out boards - from stomping during a performance, comes *to ; Leamington this Friday (Leamington is about 30 miles from Windsor), and a bunch of us C & W fans from the Windsor Star are -going out to see the show. Word is that Tom will be in- vited to a 'post-mortem' after the show, at The Star's Leamington correspondent's place. sound like fun ... For instance, an Ontario cabinet minister is entitled to a desk six inches longer than his deputy and that six-inch-longer desk is worth $350. more ; than the deputy's. Both are allowed to order ; pictures of "quality and type to individual choice", but the minister's can be worth $300 4 each, his deputy's $200. When it comes to ash trays and waste paper baskets, however, they- 're equal. Both can have a basket II inches long, II inches wide and I6 inches high, to " match their desk, at $20 apiece. Their ash trays can be worth $I5 each. Carpeting for offices used by ministers and their deputies can be worth $I3.50 a square yard. i REBEKAH LODGE ELECTS OFFICERS Mrs. Glorie Miller N.G. and Mrs. Lil Harris V.G. presided for the regular Ruby Rebekah meeting when Mrs. Mavis Slater, president of the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario paid her offi- cial visit, introduced by Mrs. Helen Wallace, r.D.D.E. ' Mrs. Winnie Clemens, Chaplain of the Rebek- ah Assembly was introduced by Mrs. Beth Macadam, P.N.G., and Mrs. June Claydon, D.D.P. District 4I was introduced by Mrs. Gladys Hamilton, J.P.N.G. They all entered the Lodge room under an arch of red carnations held by Rebekah members. 3 Mrs. M. Machan, of Topaz Rebekah Lodge, was also welcomed. i Prior to the meeting the guests were honour-- ed at a dinner held in the Mayfair Hotel. Mrs. Gladys Hamilton, reporting for the C.P. and T. committee outlined their plans a penny auction and grocery hamper draw on June 22nd with each member asked to donate prizes. The vice grand reported paying visits and sending cards and flowers to sick members. An invitation was received to attend a meeting and initiation at Amethyst Lodge, Thun -der Bay, on June 4th.
