McKague as spokesman presented a brief in favour of the introduction of a course in Terrace Bay on Family Life and Sex Education, along with the following definite lines at the April I4, I973 meeting of the Lake Superior Board of Education: a) to adopt and implement the Lakehead course outline for a two year trial period in the public school, g b) to introduce at the secondary level either as an option or incorporated in the health education program, c) to provide funds for a materials section for the program in the public school 1li- brary, but available for the whole division d) to encourage and assist teachers to up- grade their knowledge in this subject through summer courses. The group was informed that a decision would be reached at the May Board meeting. The minutes of meeting no., 3/73 held Saturday, March I0, I973 were declared adopt- ed. The Disbursements for the period ending March 30, I973 in the amount of $309,511.46 were approved for payment. The Board accepted with regret the follow- ing resignations from the teaching staff, effective the end of the present school year: Mrs. Anne Lewycky-Lake Superior High School; Miss Judith Speller-Manitouwadge Public School Mrs. Valerie Barten-Manitouwadge Public School Mrs. Rosemary Tarnowski-Manitouwadge Public School. continued page 2 cee esse HISTORICAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED Graduate university students interested in Canada's historical and natural heritage will have the opportunity to further those inter- ests through special Parks Canada scholarships Jean Chretien, Minister of Indian and North- ern Affairs, announced. Up to fifteen scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, will be awarded for study in the fields of natural parks and outdoor recrea- tion; and historical archaeology and restora- tion architecture. As Canada's National and Historic Park sys- tems expand to meet the ever-increasing de- mands put upon them, a growing need has devel- oped for men and women with both an interest and an expertise in this country's historical and natural heritage. The scholarship program, which began in 1967, is designed to encourage students towar- ds careers in the management, interpretation and development of National and Historic Parks The program has been extended this year to include archaeology and architecture with the already present fields of park management, park planning, resource conservation and out- door recreation. The scholarships are available only to Canadian citizens and are tenable at foreign universities, only if the required courses are not offered here in Canada. Applications for the I973-74 grants must be received by May I5, I973 and holders may not accept awards from other federal government sources. Child safety Week May Ist - May 7th.
