PAGE 16 TERRACE BAY NEWS APRIL 18, 1973 GIRL GUIDES OF CANADA Superior Division, Girl Guides of Canada, held their first meeting of the year in the Catholic Parish Hall in Schreiber, with mem- bers of all six districts attending. Mrs. Howarth, Division Commissioner, who presided, welcomed the members and introduced each District Commission. She then presented the executive: Ollive Ross, Camp Adviser, June Gardner, Internation- al Adviser, Tina Wilson, Program chairman and Shirley Caron, secretary. Camping presentations were made to Glenna Clearwater and Ollive Ross. Mrs. Howarth explained that this area, formerly known as Lakeland Area will now be called "The Voyageur - Covering from the Manitoba boundary as far east as Sault Ste Marie, with Kenora now known as The Laverendrye District. Ollive Ross gave her report on camping and stated those wishing to camp should apply early in the year, priority of necessity given to early applicants. Trainers are still needed for this Divi- sion and anyone interested should contact Mrs. Howarth. Fees have increased this year, $1.00 per member, and due to poor communications be- tween Province, area and division this association still owes the Province $600.00. Norma Johnson's suggestion that each district plan their own way to make up the difference was accepted. The Provincial Annual meeting will be held in Toronto in early May and Mrs. Howarth was elected to attend. A Sharing and Learning session was planned to be held in Red Rock in late May along with the next Division meeting -- these meetings being held twice a year. Marilyn Sarampaa volunteered to handle the Division Letter, sent out quarterly for all districts. Leaders wishing to submit names for this must send them in to Marilyn no later than April 30. Becuase of the great demand for P. L. training a class will be held in Terrace Bay in September - date to be announced later. The Senior Guide Rally was also planned for September in Terrace Bay. A motion of appreciation was made to the White Sand District who hosted the most succ- essful meeting. The meeting, attended by 31, ended with a dinner in the Restauant LcBlanc. Photo by Inez McCuaig. WYKES FAREWELL Dr. and Mrs. T. R. Wykes were honored at a tea held in the St. John Church hall on April 7 when friends met to bid them goodbye and wish them happiness in their new home in Chesley, Ontario. As they entered the hall, Mrs. Wykes was presented with a corsage of red roses and the doctor with a buttonniere. Mrs. Bill assisted them in receiving. The tea tables were served by the Misses Janet and Judy Lengyel, Janice Wiznuk, Heather Brown, Joyce Cluett and Rhonda Miller. Miss Irene Spicer and Mesdames D. Q. Hamilton, George Lengyel, and D'Arcy McGuire replenished. On behalf of the community, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Hamilton presented as farewell gifts a painting of the Aguasabon gorge, and a set of decanters with matching stemmed glasses -- the names of the donors on a long satin ribbon. Dr. Wykes also received an anchor for his boat from the McCausland Hospital and other personal gifts. Dr. and Mrs. Wykes were also entertained at a party for intimate friends hosted by Mr. and Mrs. William Miller in their home in Terrace Bay on April 6, the evening spent recalling happy occasions enjoyed together during the Wykes' years in Schreiber. A painting of a local scene was presented as a farewell gift, with exchanged faithful promises to visit each other. Attending the party were Mr. and Mrs. J. D.
