Dr. Baldwin has recently been appointed as Area Co-ordinator of District Health Councils. : Dr. Hastings was appointed some time ago, by the Ministry of Health, to set up a commit- tee and carry out a study on Community Health Centres throughout the world. This report was completed and presented for study in the past year. The Community Health Centre concept has been presented with the idea of giving the public a wider range of health services than those provided by the ordinary hospital - in* other words giving better value for money spent. The emphasis is on total care of the individual and deals with drug and alcohol problems, family situations requiring coun- selling, welfare and on preparing the patient to carry on his treatment in the home when possible. Our present hospital facility is nearing the end of its usefulness and it was felt the doctors were sympathetic to the fact that, because of distance and weather condi=- tions, we needed some beds in whatever hew facility we have for our area in the future. With this background of information which we now have from the Ministry of Health, we feel we have reached the point where we can list our area's needs and priorities, and present them for the Ministry's consideration.
