PAGE I2 TERRACE BAY NEWS FEBRUARY 7,I973 Hockey League ~ cont'd from page 10: ..sws. (4) the team standings are as follows: w L Terrace Bay 6 3 Marathon 5 4 Heron Bay 3 5 Manitouwadge 3 5 Although it is late in the season there will appear in a later edition of the News an up to date list of the scoring leadership, best goal tending, etc. Even though this season has not yet come to an end, I would at this time ask anyone interested in assisting this league and mak- ing it another successful season next year to contact any team member and let him know if you would have your name stand for the follow- ing league positions - Pres., Vice Pres., Sec., Treasurer, Publicity, Chairman. As a little encouragement I would like to say, with a very capable executive in our first year of operation the toughest part is "ground work" has been accomplished with a great amount of dedication and efficiency. No doubt the new executive will have many important decisions to make, but I'm sure there must be enough people along this North Shore willing to put the time and effort into an endeavour such as this. Just remember this is by no means any thing close of Senior Hockey or Junior A, what we are attempting to provide is a bit of rec- reation for those players who are a little too old to play Junior, but not to old to show them how its done (at times) also to give the spectators a brand of hockey that is not too- too serious but at the same time enjoyable to watch. On that note I'll close and once again, we as players of the Terrace Bay Raiders and the Nor-West Intermediate League, thank you for your support this season. Next home game Sunday, February IIth, 7:30 p.m. Ron Lang, President, Terrace Bay Raiders. YOUR HOSPITAL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY BUY A MEMBERSHIP T0 THE MCCAUSLAND HOSPITAL CORPORATION A tighter defensive effort and a strong of- fencse helped the Terrace Bay Superiors rally from a 3-0 deficit early in the first period Sunday to a 4-4 tie. The game, played in Manitouwadge saw the local boys turn on a lot of steam and skate back to almost win the game in the dying sec- onds of the last period. Netminder Richard Smith played strongly for the Superiors to hold back the Copper Kings to only 3 goals in the first period and I in the second period. In the first frame a goal by Jack 0'Javee put the Superiors back on their feet after Manitouwadge had already scored three fast goals early in the period. Second period goals by Bevin Schritt and Dale Randa evened the score but another goal scored by the opposition ended that period 4-3 against our boys. With two minutes left in the game the score was again tied for the last time by one of the Superiors strongest players, Ed Zwaresh. When power is needed Ed is one man who can usually provide it. This Thursday action returns to the Terrace Bay arena when the Superiors host the league leading Marathon Mercs. Game time is 8 o'clock. The following Sunday, February IIth, Mani- touwadge Copper Kings will return for a game at I p.m. Superiors have only four regular home games left on their schedule before play- offs begin.
