JANUARY 3I, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE I3 ROSSPORT TOWN TOPICS A Bonspiel was run off over the week end with Peter Mushquash and his team of Bill Hubelit, Joseph Hubelit and Hilda Mushquash winning the first prizes of cigarette lighters. Second prize of cash was won by Brian Ray's team of Chas Wilde, Albert Ray and Walter Schroeder. Third prize of cash was won by Donnisg Ray's team of Peter Gerow, William Schroeder and Raymond Goodchild. Chas. Wilde was a visitor during the week to Manitouwadge. Eugene Gerow was a business visitor to Thunder Bay. Rev. Father Meyer of Schreiber visit- ed this Mission, Sunday for services. Mrs. Cecilia Somers R.N. of Espanola is visiting the Chas. Todescos. Lionel Hubelit of Wawa was a business visitor here this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Mushquash and fam- ily spent the weekend in Nipigon. Mrs. Mary MacDonald and her father Emile Seppala of Thunder Bay are visit- ing Mr. and Mrs. T.F. Seppala. The annual meeting of the Rossport School Recreation Center was held Sun- day afternoon in the center. Election of officers took place for 1973-74 as follows with Romeo Bouchard in the chair. President - Floyd Harnden, Sec.- Treas.-Chas. Wilde; Committee Members - Chas. Henderson, John Joiner. The annual report was heard on the activities for the past year. Two cri- bbage tournaments were held, throughout the spring and fall; a twice weekly slimnastics group used the building; meetings were held by other organiza- tions some of which were the North Shore Development Council, A Bible Study group, The Moose Lodge Fish Derby Committee and the non-treaty Indian Organization. The library reported a very success- ful year with a large turnover of books each week, many of the local children take advantage of the inter-library exchange of books available in conjunc- tion with the Thunder Bay library and receive specialized information for Committee was successful in obtaining a grant for An Opportunity for Youth Project in cleaning up a portion of the waterfront and town locations. A Halloween Party for the parents and children was held providing a movie, a bingo and lunch for them. Badminton and shuffle board games were enjoyed throughout the year by the teenagers. A raffle of a canoe took place and the Kinsmen Club of Schreiber made a substantial cash donation to the committee. The Center was used throughout December for practices for a Christmas play. Treats were distri~ buted to the children through the joint efforts of the School Recreation Center and the Community Hall Committ- ee. Another fund raising project of a bingo was held - proceeds used for fuel, water, lights, taxes and general upkeep of the building. Swings are provided for the childr- en and ball equipment available. Mr. and Mrs. Dave McKay of Sioux Lookout spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Norman McCuaig. their school projects.
