PAGE IO TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY IO, 1973 MR. AND MRS. BRYSON'S 65 ANNIVERSARY An old-fashioned Social Evening was held to mark Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Bryson's 65th wedding anniversary, when the crowd attending drank their tea and then stayed on, to visit the hon-~ oured guests, and mingle with others present. The tone of the evening was set by the appearance of 'Jimmy" in his cherished rocking chair, comfortable and with Mrs. Bryson comple tely enjoying the good wishes of so many old and young friends. The event began with a family dinner, held in the Anglican Church hall, attended by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bryson, sons Jimmy, Bobby and Ricky, and Rodney of Terrace Bay with his wife and son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Legault and his wife of Kingston, were unable to attend. Also there were the Rev. Arthur Chabot and Mrs. Chabot of Marathon. Mr. and Mrs. Bryson were married in Gates- head on Tyne, in England, and have lived in Schreiber since I9II. Both were gifted music- ally, Mrs. Bryson as a pianist and Mr. Bryson with a sweet high tenor voice which for many years was the backstay of the Anglican Church choir. And on countless occasions they were the star numbers on local programs. In addition Mrs. Bryson taught piano and played for dances and is still the musician fox the Ruby Rebekah Lodge. Reg Bailey, on behalf of friends, presented a quaint Christmas scene, with carefully fold- ed bills forming the many shrubs, and inside a miniature organ a music box playing Christmas carols. He paid tribute to the contribution they had made with their music, as wonderful hosts and to the affairs of their church. Many other personal gifts were received. Mrs. Jack Bryson, Mrs. George Legault and Mrs. Rodney Bryson, the hostesses were assisted by Mesdames Reg Bailey, Norman Glad, Fred Harness, Geoff. Birch, Ralph Morrill, George Birch, Cyril Sparkes and D.Q. Hamilton. Laura Jane Reynolds was in charge of the guest register. Andy Bond, with Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Perkins and their children Vickie and Steven of Thun- der Bay visited Mrs. Eleanor O'Connor over the holiday weekend. Miss Edna McColeman has returned home to Marquette, Mich. after spending two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Archie McColeman visiting also Mr. and Mrs. Freddie McColeman. A Merry Christmas party was enjoyed in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Webb with Mr. and Mrs. Al Matte (Sharon) coming from Sudbury, and sons Billy, from White River, and Bob from Lake Super ior State College, Sault Ste. Grandma Rose Anna Fournier, who makes her home with them, and Carol and Paddy, still at home, and son Bryan and his family, who lives in Schreiber all enjoyed the gathering. The quarter of beef raffled by the Schreiber Foodmarket, was, ironically, won by a bachelor- Serge Henri. The Golden Draw at the Legion New Year's Eve party was won by Mrs. Alex 0O'Grodnic of Terrace Bay, with Myrna McCuaig drawing the tickets. Swelled by the many young people, here for the holiday and their hosts, it was one of the largest and gayest parties in years. BAmong the special numbers requested was a toast in song to Georgina (Skip) Davis, retiring president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Ken Martinsen spent New Year's in Sault Ste. Marie at a class reunion.
