My colleagues in the Cabinet, fellow Members of the Legislature and staff of my Ministry, join with me in thanking Kimberly- Clark for their donation of the former Terrace Bay Motor Hotel to the senior cit- izens of your community. Within the next few months, this fine hotel will be converted into a Senior Cit- izens' Residence, functioning as a satellite Home to "Pinewood Court" in Thunder Bay but serving your entire District. There will be a close partnership between our Ministry through Mr. Lawrence Crawford, Director of the Homes for the Aged - Office on Aging Branch, and the Board of Management for the District of Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged, through Mr. James Symington, Chair- man, and Mr. M. Vibert, Administrator. We have every expectation that this new Home will provide a valuable service to your community and surrounding territories. In addition, we have already assured the Board of McCausland Hospital and our own associates in the Ontario Ministry of Health, that we in the Ministry of Community and Social Services will cooperate with them in every way to help them serve the health needs of your community. Your Recreation Centre, too, is of interest to my Ministry. Our emphasis, of course, will be on social service, accommodation and activity programs. I wish to ask the representatives and employees of Kimberly-Clark, labour and management, and all visitors, for help in making this a truly community spirited pro- ject. Your understanding and cooperation at this time of transition is essential, and your continued support of the coming programs of this Senior Citizens' Residence and Centre will go a long way toward making our joint Terrace Bay project one of the best of its kind in Ontario. RECREATION NEWS Hockey Action This Week: On Thursday January 4th the Marathon Mercuries will be visiting the Terrace Bay Superiors in Junior "B" competition. Spectators are reminded to bring their discs to take advantage of the lower admiss ion prices. THE 1972 DISCS WILL STAY IN EFFECT UNTIL THE 1973 DISCS ARE ISSUED. a This coming Sunday, four teams from 3 Manitouwadge will be visiting the four Terr= ace Bay teams. Support our local hockey talent by attends ing the games. Upholstery Workshop: As advertised in the last issue of the News, the Recreation Committee will be : sponsoring a Workshop for anyone interested in taking it. Details have not yet been worked out; how- ever, next week's News will outline all | details. Be prepared to register for this Workshop once registrations are accepted by | the Recreation Office as we usually receive J more registrations than the Course can take. Instructor for the Workshop will be Eva | Conners. Junior Badminton Resumes January 13th: All students who registered for the Junior Badminton program are reminded that this program will start again on Saturday, January 13th. Ry: Mens Fitness Program: A special meeting will be called next week to determine if this program should continue. Participants of the program will | be informed as to date and time of meeting.
