Council Quotes - cont'd Mr. Ken Taniwa, Clerk of Marathon Town Office, requested information as to the methods of capital financing of school purposes in the past. The Service Employees Union, Local 268, have submitted a proposed contract for Recreation Depart - ment employees, requesting that Council study it and advise of a date for negotiations, The Students Council of the Lake Superior Terrace Bay High School campus requested permission to canvass the town before Christmas for the purpose of selling peppermint patties and chocolate bars, to aid in their fund raising. The Thunder Bay District Municipal League advised that since there was no apparent problems to be brought up, the scheduled November meeting was cancelled. Accounts passed for poyment were: Township - 136,723.33; Hydro - 11,692.90; Library - 840.48; Recreation Committee - 8,718.42, A resolution was passed authorizing the Clerk to take necessary steps to improve the Hydro and Water billing procedures. Snow removal on the Plaza for the coming winter program was discussed. A letter of thanks to Council was received from Jon McDonald, on behalf of the Opportunities for Youth project that took place this summer. Mr. Mc-| Donald thanked Council for their generous co-oper- ation and a vote of thanks went to Clerk-Treasurer Bill Hanley, for his special assistance. Mr. McDon- ald stated that without Mr, Hanley's helo in several major and minor problems, the work would not have gone so well. Twelve students were employed under Jon McDonald's supervision, and he felt that the Aguasabon Gorge stood out as a symbol of people working together to make this area a beautiful place fo see. WINTER CARNIVAL MEETING The Winter Carnival Committee met again in the Recreation Centre with Don Laporte chairing the meeting. The first item on the agenda was to choose a Vice-Chairman to assist Cy Brassard. Gerrie Dickson agreed to take this position. Don Laporte, as Past-Chairman of the 72 Winter Carnival, stated he was happy to turn the Committee over to Chair- man Cy and Vice Chairman Gerrie. He thanked everyone who assisted him in the past, and said he would do everything possible to help the 73 Winter Carnival Committee. Chairman Brassard proceeded with the meeting, suggesting that a proposed date be set. It was agreed that February 15,16,17and 18th be set aside as continued on page 3.....
