Telephone - 577-6451 PENNER TOURS NORTH SHORE COMMUNITIES Over the Labour Day weekend, Keith Penner kicked off his campaign for re-election by visiting communities along the north shore. During the long weekend, Penner attended a corn roast in Marathon, a Fish Derby in Nipigon and a Labour Day dance in Terrace Bay. Speaking in Nipigon, he pointed out that twenty years ago in Canada government took no responsi- bility for the income of older Canadians. Today, by contrast, the Government of Canada guarantees the largest income for its senior citizens of any country in the world. In 1972-73 the senior citizens of Canada will receive $2.3 billion in assistance, a sizeable part of the total faderal bud- get. Fully one half of all improvements in Income Security for senior citizens has taken place in the last four years under the Trudeau Government. Referring to the problem of inflation, Penner pointed out that the cost of living in Canada since 1968 has had an average yearly increase of only 3.7%, much more stable than in most industrial- ized countries. During the same four year period, labour income in current dollars increased by 45.2%. In the course of "Campaign 72", Mr. Penner will attempt to spend some time in each of the more than 90 communities in his 115,000 mile constitu- ency. "The physical effort of getting around is in itself a big problem", he said, "but the people seem to understand and are most helpful". NOTICE Dr. D. Aedy, R.O., will be in Terrace Bay for your examinations on September 28th and 29th. | Call 825-3698 for appointment.
