The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, was given approval fo connect sewer and water lines for their new building, subject to obtaining a registered easement plan. Mr. M. Reid, of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, advised Council by letter, that regarding com= plaints from a local citizen, in connection with the storage of old vehicles in yards, the owner stated that he was intending to put them info runnina order in the near future. Council intends fo keep track of these and other unsightly objects, and if forced to, will put more teeth into the by-law governing junk and other refuse littering yards. A notice from the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association stated they would hold a Resolutions Committee meeting in Thunder Bay on September 22. The Lake Superior Board of Education advised of a hearing to be held in Thunder Bay on October 16th, on the costs of education. At this time, any local citizen may submit their views, but must have indi- cated their prior intention. An interim payment to the contractor installing the compresors in the Recreation Centre was approved Mr. J.J. Doyle submitted his notice in writing of his intension to take an early retirement, from the Terrace Bay Police Force, effective September 13. Accounts passed for payment were: Township - 1 $133,878,03; Hydro-$8,415.08; Library-$580.25; Recreation Committee-$13,402.15. An advisory planning committee is being formed by Council. A report from the Crossing Guards stated that after discussion with the principals of the elementary schools and the Terrace Bay Police Department, hours of operation have been arrived at, and were published in the local paper. Parents of small children par- ticularly are urged to note the times the Crossing Guards are on duty and see that small children cross the highway within this time limit, fo insure their safety, and co-operation with the Crossing Guards. (See Sept. 13th issue for times). Council approved the appointment of a third mem= ber of the Terrace Bay Police Department. He is Ken Campbell and his duties will commence on September 14th. By-law 242 was given first and second reading and excerpts from this by-law read as follows: - That no person shall dump, place, deposit or permit fo be dumped, placed or deposited on any grounds, yards or vacant lots, within the Township of Terrace Bay, any junk, or refuse of any kind whatsoever, and continued page 3 .......
