PAGE 8 TERRACE BAY NEWS AUGUST 10, 1972 RECREATION NEWS Summersounds '72 Appears Thursday, August 10th: Please refer to page 6 for the recent press release on Summersounds '72. The show will get underway at 8:00 p.m. sharp at the Terrace Bay Campus aud- itorium. Seats are available on a 'first-come, first served' basis. A nominal admission fee of .25¢ per head is being charged to help offset local costs in bringing Summersounds '72 to Terrace Bay. This should be an excellent show so be sure to attend early. Terrace Bay Swim Meet Very Successful: The Terrace Bay swim meet was held on Saturday, August 5th, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. A number of local swimmers took part in the Meet and all pres- entations will be taking place on Thursday, August 31st. It is important to note that approximately 25 vol- unteers were required to act as timers, secretaries, recorders, stroke and turn judges, etc. We wish to thank all those who gave up their valuable time to assist in this capacity. Playground Programme plans Dance for Younger Teens This Friday, August 11th, a special dance will be held in the Curling Lounge of the Recreation Centre from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. for the younger teens 10 to 14 years of age inclusive. This dance is being planned in response to a num- ber of requests received by the Recreation Office in this regard. This should prove to be an interesting evening for the "younger set". Plan to attend. Schreiber-Terrace Bay Track & Field Meet Aug. 14: A special Schreiber-Terrace Bay Track and Field Meet is scheduled to be held on Monday, August 14th, at the athletic field in Terrace Bay. This meef is being co-ordinated by Mr. John Brooks who con- ducts two sessions weekly in Terrace Bay for Track and Field enthusiasts. Anyone wanting more information concerning this Track meet should contact Playground Supervisor Donna Chapman. Ribbons will be awarded to Ist, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. North Shore Swim Meet August 19th: The North Shore Swim Meet will be held in Marathon on Saturday, August 19th. The Terrace Bay swim team will be travelling to Marathon for this meet in the hope of coming back with the North Shore trophy. More information concerning the North Shore Swim Meet can be obtained from the Terrace Bay swim pool staff. . GOLF NEWS Winners of Twilight held Wednesday, August 2nd were: - "A" Event - low gross, W. Stachiw 37; Low net, J. Luke, 32 1/2; "B" Event - low gross, R. Campbell 43; Low net - C. Buck 38. Don't forget the adult and junior tournament sun Sunday, August 20th for the Desrosiers Trophy. If you haven't placed your entry for our Open August 26 & 27, do so right away as the limit is 1 84 players and we now have over 50. Enter now and don't be left out. ATHLETIC FIELD SLOW IN DEVELOPING Over a year ago a planning committee comprised of Lake Superior Board of Education representative Bob Cressman, Board Member Brian McDonald, Recreation Committee Members Ollie Chapman and Tom Pollard, High School representative Jon Ferguson and Gerry Dupas, Recreation Co-Ordinator was formed to devel op the concept of an Athletic Field in Terrace Bay. The development of the field was contracted to a local contractor and late last fall fertilizing and seeding completed the work that could be done before frost and the winter season set in. Unfortunately do to the unco-opeative public con- tinuing to destroy the field by walking across it and | the lateness of the year, the seed did not take. As Spring arrived you would hardly know any effort had been made to improve the field. The approximate cost of this hopeful worthwhile venture is $6,000. Of this the Board of Education will share 2/3 and the Recreation Department, 1/3 of the costs. cont'd page 9
