Board Meeting = cont'd It was agreed to proceed with educational tele- vision in Terrace Bay through the community cable system and that Manitouwadge, Marathon and Schreiber be afforded the same privilege. Two persons will be hired to assist with the clean- ing of Marathon high school for a maxium of ten hours per week, each at rate of pay of $2.10 per hour, as required. The Board supported the Dryden Board of Educa- tion requesting the Minister of Education to revise the grant structure of pupils enrolled in Schools for the Trainable Retarded, with a view to placing these students in a distinct different category for grant purposes, and that the per pupil cost be esta- blished on realistic basis related to the total ordin- ary expenditure for pupils in the Trainable Retarded Schools. The Board also supported the motion passed by Wentworth County Board of Education regarding the proposed legislation removing the two-thirds max- imum limit of Boards" contribution to various health insurances, worded as follows: "At this time of financial stringency and rising taxes, the Wentworth County Board of Education strongly deplores the proposed legislation removing the two-thirds max- imum limit of Board contribution on Group Life Insurance, Ontario Health Insurance and Supple- mental Hospital and Medical Insurance. This leg- islation will substantialy increase the cost of educ- ation to taxpayers throughout the Province and it will remove financial Responsibility from where it properly belongs, namely those who are receiving the increased benefits. " The next meeting of the Board will be held on August 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Marathon High School . COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council met on Thursday even- ing, in Council Chambers, with Reeve Cavanaugh presiding, and Clerk-Treasurer, Bill Hanley, Councillors Roy Bray, Rolly Sinotte, Verl Thompson, Joe Kennedy and one interested citizen in attend- ance. Minutes were adopted as read. Correspondence included a letter to Jack Stokes, M.P.P., that Council would be happy to make the visit of the Lieutenant-Governor both relaxing and enjoyable. As a result of an inquiry from Kimberly-Clark, relative to the Township installing new compressor units in the Recreation Centre .ice-making plant. Council advised Kimberly-Clark that they would expect the Company to continue to provide normal repairs and maintenance of all the ice plant machin- ery. Mr. David Barnett was offered the position of Police Chief of the Township of Terrace Bay and by letter accepted this position, effective July 31, 1972, The Horticultural Society advised that they would be holding their Annual Show in August and Council assured Mr. H. Landry that a Municipal Trophy would again be donated. A Provisional Certificate of Approval for the Waste Management System was received. The Royal Canadian Legion submitted a copy of their application for their new building received from the Liquor Licensing Board. The Department of Consumer and Commercial Affairs advised Council of the method to be used for the amalgamation of the two cemeteries into a single Community Cemetery. The Lake Superior Board of Education annual requisition was received, for the Lake Superior Board of Education and the Schreiber-Terrace Bay District Roman Catholic Separate School Boards. Mill rates resulting from the requisitions would indicate an approximate 10% increase in Separate School and 5% Public School taxes for the year 1972. The Municipal Mill rates remain the same residential rate as in 1971, 1/2 mill increase in Commercial rates. A By-law was passed to adopt the official tax rates which will appear in the next issue of the News. continued page 4 ......
