Both groups will perform informal and formal in- door and outdoor concerts in all conceivable com- munity situations. Mr. Boyman indicated where possible the con- certs will be held in association with community festivals or special events. Summersounds perform- ances will include shows at the Peterborough "Water and Arts Festival" and Sharbot Lake's Annual Summer Social . Some of the other likely concerts will be at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and the St. Lawr- ence Centre and Ontario Place in Toronto. The tours will combine for the concerts in Ottawa and Toronto. The musicians - singers and instrumentalists - were chosen from over 350 hopefuls at auditions in Toronto, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, London, Waterloo, and Sudbury. The auditions were conducted by Walter Cavalieri the artistic co-ordinator and the two music direct= ors, Barbara Spence and Bruce Pennycook. Mr. Cavalieri is known to Torontonians for his work as production stage manager and regional art- istic director for the Toronto production of "Hair". He turned down a position with Godspell in order to be with Summersounds. ; : He explained that he was "more interested in work- ing toward the development of talent in the unstruct= ured and imaginative Summersounds programme than in the typical commercial musical milieu. "I haven't seen so much talent since we held the first auditions for Hair. In fact these auditions were even more exciting." He said, "We had heard so much fine new music, written by the performers themselves, that we decid- ed to use it as the major part of the programme." Mr. Cavalieri said there are people from all over Ontario in the group. "Despite the relative isola- tion of the home communities of some of the perform= ers, there was no disparity in the talent." Mr. Cavalieri added that an indiviudal's musical talent had nothing to do with the location of his home town. There are musicians in the groups from Toronto, Woodstock, Ottawa, Dresden, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, London, Peterborough, Hamilton, Windsor, Waterloo, Nipigon, Midland, Shallow Lake, Brampton, Terrace Bay and surrounding areas. Ms. Spence is the musical director for the tour that is rehearsing at Alma College in St, Thomas from July first to July twentieth.
