r TERRACE BAY NEWS Vol. 15 No. 28 July 12, 1972 15¢ Per Copy SUMMERSOUNDS '72 TO TOUR ONTARIO TO APPEAR IN TERRACE BAY, AUGUST 10th Two groups of thirty-five Ontario musicians from age 13 to 22 will make a six-week tour this summer to 7C communities all over the province. Miss Leslie Thompson of Terrace Bay has auditioned successfully for Summer sounds and will be appearing with the group in Terrace Bay. Congratulations are certainly in order to Leslie and we look forward to seeing her perform on August 10th. For 70 young people, Summersounds '72 will mean a summer of making music while having an all-expenses paid tour of Ontario. For thousands of music lovers throughout the province, Summersounds '72 will mean concerts featuring original music. And for local musicians, Summersounds '72 will mean a chance to learn about music by exchanging ideas with the per- formers. Marc Boyman, director of the programme, hopes "Summersounds will bring a worthwhile cultural event to communities throughout the province." Mr. Boyman explained that Summersounds is more than just a series of concerts. He said, "The music- ians will be billeted in private homes to encourage a give-and-take experience between them and the host familites." He also emphasized the importance of stimulating the development of talented young musicians in Ontario. Summersounds '72 is sponsored by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, Youth and Recreation Branch. The success of last summer's tour encouraged the government to expand the programme as part of a continued page 2 ...... DR. D.J.M. McCAUSLAND BURSARY-SCHOLARSHIP AWARD In August 1970 the citizens of Terrace Bay honour: ed and paid tribute to Doctor D.J.M. McCausland for 25 years of devoted and untiring service to this community. To commemorate this occasion donations were re- ceived and placed in trust as a Bursary=Scholarship Fund. The amount of interest derived from the in vestment makes up the money awarded each year fo the student or students qualifying for the bursary. The Trust is presently administered by the following trustees: T.S. Pollard, Secretary-Treasurer; A. Pattison, Chairman; E.E. Forgues, Principal, Lake Superior High School; J.D. Ferguson, Vice Principal Terrace Bay Campus; R.A. Mulligan, Vice Principal Schreiber Campus. Dr. D.J.M. McCausland, Special Consultant. This year Miss Sonja Stojko of Terrace Bay is the recipient of the Scholarship out of thirteen appli-- cants. Miss Stojko completed her Grade 13 at the Lake Superior High School. She will attend Univer- sity of Western Ontario in London this Fall. The Doctors McCausland Bursary=Scholarship Award was registered as a charitable trust and now qualifies as a "Registered Canadian Charitable Organization" within the meaning of the Income Tax Act. Contributions are still accepted and en- couraged. Receipts for Income Tax purposes are provided. About two million acres of forests are harvested annually in Canada.
