But utterly captivating the audience were young musicians - Allan Zborowski, 13, vocal solo; Linda Commisso, 15 accordion solo; Mario Commisso, accordion solo; and when Mario appeared again, playing accordion, his brother Marc 11 with guitar and small brother 7, playing the drums, they received a standing ovation, with encores demanded. The program closed with a prayer by Mrs. Winnie Clemens and the rest of the evening was spent in visiting. The occasion had begun with a 'meat- each-other' hour in the town hall after which the crowd over t.vo hundred went on to the high school for the banquet. Among the many attending the occasion from out of town were Mrs. Slater's daughter, Miss Dorothy Slater, her niece, Miss Helen Harness and her aunt, Mrs. Florence Higgens, all of Thunder Bay. BIKE RODEO WINNERS Although the number of entries was smaller than had been anticipcted, in the Bicycle Rodeo, Const. Don Anderson, O.P.P. who was in charge of the event, and the Kinsmen who sponsored it, were gratified with the enthusiasm of those who did enter the con- test. The total marks were set from the bicycle inspec- tion, written test, and actual riding. Chris Reid won the trophy in the Kindergarten age, with Pat Bosley awarded cash and Glen Korman a set of signal lights. Randy Kosteicki won the trophy in grade two to four group, with Gerard Wykes winning signal lights, and Maureen Wills, a horn. Martel Dukes won the trophy in the grades five to eight groups, with Barbara Huard winning cash and Randy Burton winning cash. The trophies will have the winners' names inscribed and be placed in their schools, and each will also receive an individual trophy. The trophies were donated by the Kinsmen Club, who plan to make this an annual event. Other prizes were donated by Don Neilson, May- fair Hotel; Yola Cebrario, Hardware Store; Mauro Cenrario, Hardware Store; Spadoni Bros. Ltd.; Brian Birch Gulf Oil and Western Tire. Kinsmen and Kinettes working at the contest were Const. Don Anderson (chairman), G. Korman, Pat Halonen, Mike Cosgrove, lan Macadam; Mike Reid, Brian Birch, Mary Anderson and Edith Cosgrove, Reeve Fred Harness also assisted. PUBLIC SCHOOL GRADUATION Prior to the graduation ceremony in the Schreiber Public School, the grads, their parents and the school faculty were entertained at a dinner served in the United Church Hall. Following the processional into the auditorium the Lord's prayer was recited, and Clyde Gordon made the introductory remarks to the program. The valedictory address was given by Brent Morrill. Tom Quinton, vice principal, presented the graduation pins, assisted by Mrs. Bonnie Dye, president of the Home and School Association. R.A. Cressman, Supervising Principal Elementary Schools, Lake Superior Board of Education, read the honour roll - those student achieving 75% or over. The Women's Institute award was presented by Mrs. C. Todesco, to Arleen Krause. R.A. Cressman presented his award to Tommy Bouchard. Mrs. Althea Morris presented the Home and School Association award to Dean Fischer. Robert Grant of the Staff, introduced Mrs. Ruth Mulligan, the guest speaker. Mrs. Mulligan, vice principal of the Lake Superior High School, spoke of the differences which will be experienced by the grade eight students when they enter high school - where they are treated as adults-their progress strictly their own concern, a matter of paying atten- tion during classes, making their own notes, and, sefting the discipline for their study habits. High school is the stepping stone to higher education, and where the student must decide himself, in what field he wishes to continue = in his inclination and his natural aptitude he can be guided by the counsellor for that purpose, but, the decision is his. And graduates from Schreiber high school have left many examples to emulate.
