Sponsored by Ladies Legion Auxiliary. July Ist = Dominion Day Celebrations. WOMEN OF THE MOOSE MEETING The Women of the Moose Chapter 1426 held their meeting on May 17th when election of officers took place. The new executive are as follows: = Senior Regent = Mrs. Sadie Benko; Junior Regent = Mrs. Jacqueline Sopel; Chaplain = Mrs. Carmel Zborowski; Recorder = Mrs. Stella Sadowick; Treasur- er = Mrs. Minnie Woodruff; Junior Graduate Regent- Mrs. Anne Stachiw. The chapter will cater to the Mixed bowling ban- quet to be held on June 2nd. Reports were given by standing committees. The next meeting will be held on June 7th when College Regent chairman Collegian Mrs. Anne Didura and her committee of collegians Mrs. Jackie Calder and Mrs. Lorraine Desaulniers will be in charge of Chapter night programme. A penny auction will be held following the meet- 'ing and all members are asked to bring an article for the auction. Mrs. Kay Furyk, Mrs. Myra Smilsky and Mrs. Alice Yates served a lovely lunch following the meeting. The pot of gold was won by Mrs. Dorothy Kenny. FATHER'S DAY TEA - JUNE 18TH The Legion Ladies Auxiliary held their monthly meeting May 28th. After the reading of the minutes from the previous meetings and various committee reports given new business was discussed. A donation was made fo the Cancer Society. A penny auction will be held in the Legion Hall Sunday, June 4th at 8 p.m. The ladies were inform= ed that due to unfortunate circumstances the appreciation supper would not be June 2nd but cancelled to a later date. A bowling tournament convened by Pam Jones will be held June 10th with teams from Terrace Bay Schreiber and Manitouwadge competing. The ladies auxiliary will again be participating in the July 1st celebrations. They will be handing tickets out door to door for free treats for children aged 2-14 years inclusive. A Father's Day Tea will be held in the Legion Hall Sunday June 18th. at 7 = 9 p.m. Cost is single - .50¢; or family $2.00. Everyone welcome. The meeting was adjourned and a lovely lunch served. PRESENT FIRE SITUATION The Ministry of Natural Resources, Geraldton, reported on Monday that 31 forest fires are still burning, of which 15 are under control. 500 men from our own district are fighting the fires, along with trained unit crews from other districts. East of Hills Port, 8500 acres are burning. The men are using chemical water bombers, staffed by department crews and American Can personnel . Cool temperatures and the rainfall brought some relief. Restrictions on open fire areas are still in effect, with a tentative cut-off date of June 12th. The forecast is for high fire danger continuing. This warning applies to within parks as well as outside and motorists and campers are urged to use their car ash trays, and when restrictions are lifted not leave campfires without being completely sure it is out.' Good driving cells for developing the knack of thinking for others, says the Ontario Safety League.
