Meyer played a tape of Sister Noreen Coglan's address given af the convention banquet. Mrs. McGrath stated a loose leaf handbook had been purchased for cach standing committee to assist in planning programs for the coming year. Mrs. Norah McGuire read an article entitled "The Mother's Prayer". The treasurer's report and minutes, were adopted as read by Mrs. Simonne Connelly and Mrs. Phyllis McParland, the latter reading many thank you notes, and a letter from Mrs. John Yuremko concerning the Heritage convention being held in Toronto in June. The opening prayer was given by Father Meyer. SCHREIBER TOWN TOPICS The following Schreiber branch members attended the Women's Institute convention held in Nipigon on May 17th = Mesdames Joe Campbell, Ken William son, Annie Niemi, Tommy Bolan, Nelson Smith, R. Spanton, Wesley Clemens, John Morris, Eleanor O'Connor and Fred Harness. The Schreiber Women's Institute have planned a penny auction for June 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall. The Schreiber Arts and Crafts group will hold a show, open to the public, on Saturday, May 27th, in the Public School from 3 = 5 p.m. and 7 = 9 p.m. SCHREIBER TOWN CLEAN-UP As May 23rd to May 31st has been proclaimed "CLEAN-UP WEEK" in Schreiber, ifs citizens will once again become involved in a total commun- ity effort in making the Township a cleaner and bett- er place to live. A proposed plan to include not only the Municipal Employees but old and young alike is fo be imple- mented. : nLitter Pickers" from the schools will be working across town on Wednesday morning, May 31st, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, armed with litter bags, brooms and rakes, in an all out effort to im prove their community. Pamphlets explaining the campaign in more detail will be distributed to all homes in an attempt fo make everyone aware of the impending "CLEAN-UP". Garbage "DEPOTS" will be located and marked throughout the community as way stations for the .Litter Pickers" to deposit full bags of trash. With the many cries of "POLLUTION" today, here is our chance fo do something at home. With=-* out a concentrated effort on everyone 's part, the "CLEAN-UP" will not be a total success. Remember, EVERY LITTER BIT HELPS! ORGANIZATION OF BIBLE SOCIETY REVIEWED The annual meeting of the Bible Society was held in the United Church hall on May 16th. Rev. W.J. Moore, of North Bay, presided and spoke on the early organization of the Bible Society which began in London, England, in 1804, for the purpose of translating and printing the Scriptures as well as providing a price which people can pay for them. In Canada the Scriptures are translated into Eskimo and Ojibway languages. A film "The Finest Gold" was shown, concerning the industries and customs of people in Thailand where the State religion is largely Buddhist. A small minority are Christians who print and sell the Scriptures to an increasing number of interested people . The officers of the local branch were returned by acclamation. Mrs. Wesley Clemens read the minutes and gave the treasurer's report. Lunch was served by the Anglican Church Women, with Mrs. Reg Bailey as convener. STORK CLUB Born to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Birch of Schreiber, a girl on May 18, 1972. Born to Mr. and Mrs. P. Auger of Terrace Bay a boy on May 20, 1972. Mrs. Charlie Pearson has returned from Toronto where she visited Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pearson.
