Gordy and Gerry worked in collaboration with Mr. John Small (president of the O.E.L.T.A. unit) who made the workshop possible. The teachers dressed for below zero weather, snow shoed with pack-sacks from the highway across White Sand Lake to a sheltered spot where each was respon- sible for gathering firewood and starting a fire to heat heatthe supper prepared beforehand in the simplest and most practical way. Water for tea was taken from a hole chopped in the ice (a real challenge for those who are used to taps). A quick, well-done meal was enjoyed by all and soon everyone was ready to make the return trip. By this time darkness was all around and the stars were begging to be noticed, so an informativz lesson on the various facets of the heavens was conducted by Gordy. ~The following day was spent on measurement and tabulation and an evaluation of the weekend.
