FIGURE SKATING NEWS The mothers who assist so faithfully and the club professional, lvy Pattison, must have been most grat- ified with the attendance - 300 at each performance, on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, when they put on their annual show of the Figure Skating Club. This year the theme, Circus on Ice, was introduced by the beginners-who always captivate the audience- wearing the most-fetching animal garb-all made by their mothers, and most representative of their role. Too much credit cannot be paid the Terrace Band, under the direction of Mrs. Ellen Hodgekiss, who, despite the cold position (directly on the ice), pro- vided an accompanyment which obviously gave the | skaters great confidence. It was of course, in the older students' numbers, that Mrs. Pattison's teaching was proved = she could 'show and tell' and, her insistence that 'all work and no play' (during lessons) made a skater. The flair, technique, of this group entranced the audience. Jack Bryson made an able M,C. 'and the added attractions-the grocery hamper, was won by John Richilo, consolation prize by Tony McCasin.
