CARON HONOURED The Girl Guide Division Commissioner for Terrace Bay, Mrs. George Caron, was honoured by the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley at the Council's annual meeting on January 25th. She was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Girl Scout Council, which has its headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota . Last summer an international Girl Scout-Girl Guide event, the Lake Superior Hike, was climaxed by a rendezvous celebration on the beach at Terrace Bay. Mrs. Caron was active in making the three day rendezvous for seventy-seven American Senior Girl Scouts and Canadian Girl Rangers a success. Her Certificate of Appreciation reads: "Our wish to Mrs. Caron is bountiful return on the joy she helped create for the 1971 Lake Superior Hikers. For the many doors she opened ... for the use of personal equipment ... for her help in making arran- gements for the Terrace Bay Rendezvous, and for her valuable aid to our hikers in past years, this Certificate of Appreciation is most gratefully pre- sented." Three other Canadians were also honoured for their contributions to the success of the 1971 Lake Super- ior Hike. They are Land Ranger Joanne Bayles of Sault Ste. Marie; Mrs. LW. Carroll, District Commissioner for the Girl Guides of Ontario, Thunder Bay; and Sgt. L.G. Chambers of the Ontarig Provincial Police of Thunder Bay. Each received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley. INFORMATION AVAILABLE FOR "OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH" PROGRAMME The Federal Government has now issued information on the "Opportunities for Youth "programme that will be operated from May 15th, 1972, to September 15th, 1972. This programme is designed primarily to provide employment opportunities for youth during the coming summer. In order to take advantage of this opportunity a number of very important steps have to be completed prior to making application to the Federal Govern- ment. Information booklets on the "Opportunities for Youth" programme are available at the Recreation Office. If there is a desire on the part of local youth to take advantage of this programme, NOW is the time to take action. Anyone in the community wanting to know more about this programme should contact the Recreation Office for this information. The opportunity is available to you - the onus is now on the youth to take advantage of it. CARNIVAL QUEEN FINALISTS As the result of 1,282 ballots cast on Sunday, February 6th the following candidates have been chosen as finalists in the Queen Contest: Miss Bonnie McEwen, sponsored by the Terrace Bay Student Council; Miss Cathy Zwaresh, Terrace Bay Minor Hockey and Miss Sharon Bougie, Scheuchenpflug Bus Line.
