Marching Mothers will be canvassing Schreiber, Monday, February 14th, for the local campaign in support of the Ability Fund (March of Dimes) . Despite the very slippery ice, and the seemingly endless fresh replacements of the grade 8 team, the teaching staff of Schreiber Public School won a signal victory in the annual broomball game - with vice principal Tom Quinton, the hero of the event, scoring the one lone goal for the teachers. Referee, Bruce Costall, was imported from Terrace Bay for the important occasion and dealt out penalties with stern visage to Lanky Ladigan, Masher McKay and Rocket Robertson. The play was maintained at a furious pace, the fans loud in their support and following the game the exhausted teachers retired for coffee and cakes, to toast their here "Quick- Draw Quinton" who'd given them the first victory since the series began. This is another fun event, where town employees, fire brigade, bank and post office employees and other business firms or such curlers who claim to be an association, enter the ring, with some surprising results each year. The grant toward installing artificial ice gave new life to the club whose members have loyally supported it even though the season was a few brief months on natural ice. Citizens of all ages curl and those compelled by the bitter cold to forgo the pleasure still form a faithful audience. The work on the artificial ice installation has begun and it is expected will be in full swing shortly.
