Members are asked to wear costumes. After the meeting a baking penny auction sale was held followed by lunch served by the social committee. Women's Institute Meeting = cont'd from page 17... A letter of appreciation for a gift was received from Mrs. Jean Crook and an invitation from Slater River W.l. to attend a dessert tea on October 29. The Women's Institute rally has been postponed from October 21st to October 28th in the Prince Arthur Hotel, Thunder Bay. All W.l. members are welcome to attend. A donation was sent to the Muscular Dystrophy Fund and a wreath for Memorial Day was placed on order with the Royal Canadian Legion. Mrs. Morris will place the wreath for the Insitute Members agreed to buy a briefcase for use by the treasurer. Mrs. Eileen Williamson reported sending several get well and birthday cards to members. Mrs. Winnie Campbell presented a paper on Agriculture and Can Industries and mentioned that Canadians should be encouraged to buy goods made in Canada. : Mrs. Annie Niemi and Mrs. Chris Morris won prizes in Halloween contests and Mrs. Marion Yates won the draw prize. Lunch was served by Mrs. A. Todesco, Mrs. F. Harness and Mrs. A. Bryson from a tea table, decorated with a Halloween cloth and motif. HEADQUARTERS SCHREIBER 824-2524 TERRACE BAY 825-3739 The Schreiber Fastball club capped a most success= ful season with an awards banquet and cabaret dance Norman Boon, club president, presented the 1971 league championship and play-off championship trophies to the Gulf Oilers, accepted by lan ' Macadam and Robin Moore, co-coaches of the club. Stan Spadoni won the batting championship = his award accepted by Joe Figliomeni, who coaches Stan's club, "Fig's Texaco". Butch Speziale won the Norm McCuaig trophy as Most Improved Player his award accepted by Joe Figliomeni. Stan and Butch who had left to attend their second year in university were unable to attend. Dick Mannisto went home with the bulk of the trophies for the season, winning the 'most valuable player during league play"; most home runs' and most valuable player in the play offs'. Dick pitched and hit for the Gulf Oilers in their fine season this year. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a plaque to Leon Verdoni as Sportsman of the Decade for his fine administrative work with the league for several years. Mr. Boon also paid tribute to the various players for their enthusiasm, the officials, the sponsors, various organizations who supported the club and the unfailing attendance of fans, who voiceferously applauded or booed but most important - attended the games faithfully. He gave a special vote of appreciation to Mrs. Edith Cosgrove, the scorekeeper and and Herb Pearen, statistician, for their excellent work during the season.
