TERRACE BAY DOGS DO IT AGAIN At the Canadian Kennel Club's Licenced Obedience Trials held in Thunder Bay over the weekend, Lawny Lass and Ch. Wimberway's Wheaten Pippa completed their irials with honors and are now qualified for the title "Companion Dog". As in previous trials Lawny lass, Sable Coelie, topped the novice A class both days with the coveted scores of 194 and 199 1/2, the latter score giving her the second highest score in the two day trial in which 58 dogs from Canada and the United States competed. Lorraine Dobush her proud young co-owner, trainer and handler brought home two more trophies to add to her collection. Pippa, yellow Labroder Retriever, trained and handled by Rena McAdam did her bit by placing second in novice A on Saturday with 193 points. Klahanie Kennels for the top scoring Labrador in the two day trials. To qualify in the se tricls a dog must score 170 points out of the possible 200 and make not less than 50% in any of the exercises. Its a joy to watch the dog and its handler perform as a team amidst noise and confusion of people and dogs, and various scents, and give a high standard performance. The high level of obedience developed becomes most apparent in the higher levels of testing where dogs jump, retrieve and carry out scent descrimina- tion almost completely on hand signals.
