FUNERAL HELD FOR THE LATE A, BERNDTSSON Eric Axel Berndtsson passed away in Port Arthur Hospital on August 31, 1971. Axel was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Sweden and came to Canada as a young boy. He lived in Eagle River, prior to joining the Armed Services. He came to Terrace Bay in 1949, where he was employed by Kimberly-Clark for 21 years. He married the former Elsie Montey in 1946, and is survived by his wife, a daughter Holly, granddaughter Jennifer, one brother Alfred and a sister Anna. He was pre-deceased by his parents, one sister and a son. He was a member of the Terrace Bay Masonic Lodge the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, and a mem- ber of the Community Church, where he had been an Elder and on the Official Church Board. Funeral services were held in the Community Church on Friday, September 3, at 11 A.M. with Reverend Peter McKague officiating. The casket was draped with the Canadian Flag. Active pallbearers were Henry Duriez, George Ramsay, Ken Mcleod, Clarence Mercier, Wilf Cor- rigan and Pat Jones. : Honorary pallbearers were Vic Welsh,Frank Seche= - sky, Gus Mclnnes, Lloyd Paulsen, Bert Lohr and Jack Brooks. The Graveside Service was taken by members of the Royal Canadian Legion. President Pat Jones read the Service and Bert Lohr played the Last Post. Interment took place in the Terrace Bay Cemetery. Those who attended from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacKay, Mr. and Mrs. E. Coggin, Thun- der Bay; Mr. and Mrs. David Montey, Dryden; Mrs. Gertrude Brunton, Sioux Lookout; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Snodgrass, Indiana; Mr. and Mrs. A. Peters, Nipi= gon; Mr. and Mrs. Terry Essex, Ottawa. POT LUCK SUPPER HELD BY LADIES AUXILIARY The Ladies Auxiliary Evening Group of the Com-= munity Church opened the fall season with a Pot Luck Supper held in the Church Hall on Wednesday at 6 P.M, : All kinds of hot casseroles, jellied salads, rolls and desserts were there to tempt the appetites. Mrs. M. Lundberg asked Grace. After the dishes were done, the business meeting took place, with Mrs. Barb Wise presiding. Minutes were adopted as read and the treasurer's report given. The main topic of interest was the Miles for Music Walkathon to take place Saturday morning, Septem- ber 25th, with just the ladies of the Church taking part. These will include anyone from Grade 9 up, and any profit made will be donated to the Memorial Organ Fund. Those wishing to walk, man the check points, offer use of their cars or help in any way, are asked to contact Helen Brooks. "The Miles for Music" will start at the Community Church and end at White Sand Lake, where a Baked Bean Supper will be ser= ved. Although the men folk of the congregation are not being asked to walk in the Walkathon, they are invited fo serve in other capacities and also partake of the Bean Supper. Flyers will be mailed to all members of the congregation by the Ladies Auxiliary. Correspondence included a letter of thanks from Marilyn Chisholm, past president of the Evening Group, who had been presented with an Irish Baluk Cream and Sugar set. She stated she had enjoyed her association with the Auxiliary and the Church in all its aspects. Marilyn will be missed and we all wish her well in-her new home in Toronto. Mrs. Clara Gould gave the sick and visiting re= port. Mrs. Gertrude Soughton gave a resume of up coming programs for the next meetings. Continued on Page 5 .4...
