PAGE 10 TERRACE BAY NEWS SEPTEMBER 1, 1971 Schreiber Town Topics Mrs. Annie West of Thunder Bay was a recent visitor to Schreiber, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. W. Paradis and other relatives here. A reunion between two men who had played ball together almost 50 years ago was enjoyed last week when Peter Yoanidis of Galt dropped in to visit Lester McCuaig. Pete was a pitcher for the Lakehead Dominion Club and Lester played second base for the Schreiber team, 1920-24. Among the former players they could recall were Frank Asquith, Dave Tweedly, Bud McArthur and Davie Tafe, for the Dominions and John St. Jean, Cliff Jacomb, George McBride and Hugh Stewart for Schreiber. The Dominion club was commonly known as Lamodey's Boys, because a Schreiber railroader had made them his proteges and his summer camp at Selim was their home away-from-home. Photo below - Pete Yoanidis and Lester McCuaig. YATES FAMILY REUNION The Yates' family enjoyed the first reunion they've ever had, in Schreiber last week. Those attending included - Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Yates, of Westbury, Wiltshire, England; Mr. and Mrs. Art Yates, Alexander, Man.; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Yates, Brandon, Man.; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Yates, Terrace Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Reg Yates, Mr. and Mrs. John Morris (Christine Yates), Mr. and Mrs. Russell Baxter (Betty Yates), Mr. and Mrs. Bert Yates and their mother, now Mrs. Tressia Spanton, all of Schreiber. Mr. and Mrs. Yates Sr., emigrated from England to Canada in 1918 were forced to leave their son, Cyril, a small child, with relatives. The rest of*the family are Canadian born. Due to circumstances the only time any of the family have seen their brother Cyril was during the second world war, when Art with the Canadian Army, visited Cyril while in England. SUMMER SCHOOL 1971 Many of the 1971-72 faculty of the Schreiber- I Terrace Bay High School, Schreiber Campus, spent the summer months studying at various educational centres throughout Ontario. They have returned to school with many new ideas in teaching methods and with more knowledge in certain subject areas. As the year progresses, our students will benefit from their teachers efforts during the summer. Mrs. E. Cougler, and Messers F. Angelini, R. Cougler and R. Pokorny studied at Alt- house College of Education in London. Mr. R. Baron worked in Toronto on a committee pro- ducing a Mathematics Resource Booklet. Mr. J. Bishop completed a Guidance Course at McArthur College of Education in Kingston. Mr. W. Dukes completed a Marketing Course in Toronto. Mrs. R. Forgues studied at Queen University in King=- ston. Mr. G. Hayman studied at McArthur College of Education in Kingston and also completed a one week Seminar Course at Althouse College of Educa- tion in London. Mrs. C. Hougesen completed a Physical Education Course in Toronto. Mr. C. Wilde completed a French Course at Lakehead Un- iversity. Miss M.
