TEXACO LEADS GULF IN THRILLING FINALS Spine-tingling action has been the order of the day in the first three games of the Schreiber Fast- ball League finals. In the first game of the series, Mannisto of Gulf and Gauthier of Texaco waged a tight pitching duel. Texaco got their first hit in the sixth inning and' went ahead 1-0 in that inning. Gulf tied the score in the bottom of the sixth but Gauthier put Texaco back in front with a solo homer in the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth a two run error by shortstop Chuck Foreman soled Texaco's fate. With men on second and third Foreman fielded - the ball and overthrew first allowirtg two runs to score. Another runner scored after this and Mann- isto struck out the side in the ninth inning to bring his strikeout total for the game to eighteen. Final score = Gulf 4 - Gibson 2. In the second game in the series sloppy fielding by Gulf led to four big runs in the first inning. Bill Stachiw started for Gulf but couldn't get by this first inning. Dick Mannisto came in and yield- ed two quick runs in the second and they shut out Texaco the rest of the way. Gulf chipped away at this six run lead but only managed four runs off Al Gauthier who pitched his second game in two nights. Dick Mannisto accounted for two of these runs with a home run. cont'd page 17 ....--
