OF EDUCATION PROGRAM WELL ATTENDED Bruce Greenop and Denis Cliff, of the Department of Education, Youth and Recreation, spent three lively days with a class of thirty-five interested children in Schreiber, capturing their attention with illustrations and showing them, at the roots, the principles of sketching, staining, acrylic painting, batik, tie-dying, silk screening, ink drawing, water colors and pastels. The class increased from a curious few to thirty-five steady attendants. The bus which they travel in has had several inter- esting paintings - the work of the students in Graven= hurst, Marathon, and Schreiber and it is expected in Thunder Bay and Kenora. The paint is washable so each town begins with its own concept. In Schreiber the meetings were held in the Anglican Church with a large, entertained crowd gathering to inspect the tied-and-dyed exhibits strung on a clothesline tq dry. Photo below = by |. Sandy Burnet of the National Film Board and Jim Hyder of the Drug Addiction Research, Thunder Bay, spent and interesting week in Schreiber recently when they made one film and left the other work of a story, on film, or an interview to the young gener- ation. The films were shown at the end of the week to an adult audience, and younger ones, who were surprised at the grasp of their purpose by the young television artists. They filmed a group at play, on a normal day in Schreiber, at the beach, on trails and on-the-spot interviews with older people about the town. Photo next column ... SCHREIBER NEWS The special events in conjunction with the summer recreation programme under the auspices of the Schreiber Municipal Parks and Recreation Committee reached a climatic end with the presentation of the contemporary musical 'Romeo and Juliet'. An attentive audience watched the high calibre performance which was staged in the Citizens Arena.
