Mr. and Mrs. Bedard were married in Missanabie, by FatherSt. James. SCHREIBER WELCOMES GIRL GUIDES Twenty-six Girl Guides, with six leaders made an over night bivouac in the Schreiber town hall. They were from different companies in the Metro Toronto area, new to each other, and by coinciden- ce, a girl visiting Schreiber saw one girl from the street she lives on in Toronto. It was a ten day tour by bus, touching various points in Northwestern Ontario and an exhiliarating experience for both girls and leaders, their first trip to this area. They were served dinner by the local guide leaders, and local guides sat with them to make them welcome. A swim at White Sand Lake was part of the entertainment. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Winters offered their camp at Terrace Beach for the over night stay and delight ed the girls and leaders with their generous hospi- tality which included a marshamallow roast and other unexpected treats. COUPLE HONORED ON 50TH ANNIVERSARY The celebration of Tommy and Eunice Bolan's 50th Wedding Anniversary began with a special Mass in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church when they repeated their wedding vows and exchanged new engraved wedding rings, the gifts of their family, which were blessed by Father Halpin, form- er parish priest in Schreiber, who came from Ottawa for the happy occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Bolan, (the former Eunice Ronald), were married in St. Andrew's Church in Port Arthur, by Father LaRue, and by sheer chance, Helen Frankish, now Mrs. W.T. Wallace of Schreiber, attended their wedding. The Mass was celebrated on July 20th, the actual anniversary date, but the dinner and reception in their honor took place on July 24th in the United Church Hall. Reeve F.V. Harness was M.C , for the dinner and Grace was said by Father Halpin, who later paid tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Bolan saying today special tribute is being paid to them, earned and deserved by their years of unselfish devotion to their family, the helping hand to a neighbour or friends and the desire to work for others in their community across t he lines of creed and politics. Reeve Harness, in his tribute, said Tommy's skill as a carpenter has often been used in the community In particular, the present curling rink stands as a monument to Tommy's perseverance. The curling club had the opportunity of taking down a former camp building, some distance from Schreiber, and re=building it info a curling rink. Tommy came to Schreiber in 1912 and retired in 1958 as foreman of the Bridge and Building Depart- ment. continued page 12 ........
