PAGE 16 TERRACE BAY NEWS JUNE 9, 1971 HOME & SCHOOL MEMBERS RECESS FOR SUMMER SHOWER HONOURS BRIDE-ELECT Plans were completed at the Public School Home and School Association meeting on June 3rd for the graduation ceremonies. Following a covered-dish dinner in the United Church hall, for graduates, parents and staff, the graduation program will be held in the High School auditorium." The evening will be culminated by a dance for graduates and guests only but the public is cordially invited to the program preceding. The school field day is being held on June 15th, to be followed by inter-school field day in Marathon. G .R. Saumur, the principal, thanked the officers of the association, for their pleasant co-operation, and the parents for the encouraging, steady attend- ance at meetings. He also paid tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Rex Dye, Mrs. Flora Bryson, Mrs. Helen Jartus, Mrs. Shirley Brown, Mrs. Florence Fischer, and others who had given generously of their own time to assist in the various elective courses taken by the students during the year, mentioning the various business firms who had also co-operated in this most successful innova- tion. The students selected the courses they were inter- ested in and the result was a wide variety indeed - from cooking to arts and crafts, woodworking, machine upkeep and repair, merchandizing, sewing, and others. Prior to the meeting the members inspected a dis- play of crafts, followed by some gay dance numbers by grade 8 girls = Pam Nesbitt, Arlene Krause, Wendy Jones, Heather Brown, Joanne Sparkes, Dianne Madge, Donna Gellert, Sylvia James and Brenda Yates, with Dorothy Roffey as M.C. There was also a display of summer togs, made and modelled by grade 8 - girls = Catherine Patterson, Brenda Rose Yates, Judy Lengyel, Jayne Davis and Debbie Jones. The minutes, and treasurer's report, were adopted as read by Mrs. Helen Jartus and Robert Grant. Mrs. Florence Fischer, who presided, thanked the parents for their whole-hearted support of the school activities and announced that following summer recess the next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 7th. Mr. and Mrs. Tom McManus ( nee Lillian Ross ) visited with her brothers Neil Keith and Borden and old friends in town en route to Owen Sound, Ontario Miss Marion Prescott was honoured by her friends at a shower tea arranged in the United Church hall on June 5, when her mother, Mrs. Harry Prescott, and her cousin, Mrs. Arthur Parent, received with her . The tea pourers were Mrs. Jack McCouan, Mrs. George A. Scott, Mrs. Charles Boon and Mrs. Russell Weaver. Servitors were Mrs. Joe Caccamo and Mrs. Elton Fummerton, and the Misses Rosemary Speziale, Rosanne Speziale, Marion Veneziano, Bernadette Cardiff, Brenda Lalonde and Joline Zaporzan. The gifts were opened by Lola Scott and the guest book was incharge of Tina and Lisa Ellicott. Replenishing were Mesdames Ivan Martin, Stan Kusik, Bill Whent, Ed Borutski and Bob Ellicott. Preserving their heritage Ben Turner, of Thunder Bay, his son Dr. Lary Turner, of Ottawa, and Lary's son nine year old Jonathon, are here seeking out fishing haunts of the Turner family, and exploring old trails and berry patches of by-gone days. Reo Nagasaka and Bob Clarke of Windsor, are the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hobden Spikula, while doing some fishing in the area. Gary Harper, aged 33, of Thunder Bay, lately of Schreiber, passed suddenly in a Toronto Hospital, on June 5th. He is survived by his wife, Maureen, two sons - Dougie and Bobbie, a daughter Loreen, two sisters - Lorraine (Mrs. W .R. Weaver of White River) and Doreen (Mrs. H.R. Foss, of Toronto), a brother - Barry of Schreiber. Funeral arrangements are pending. The family requests that flowers be omitted and any donations be sent to the Heart Foundation. GRANT NEEDED TC AID PLAYGROUND E.A. Starr, director of the Department of Agricul= ture and Food, Toronto, with M.T. Chamberlain, Agricultural Representative, Thunder Bay, were here to discuss securing a grant to aid with the develop- ment of the playground facilities on the four acres at Holy Angels School, which is used by the town. The grant would be based on the sum of $26,000. already expended and would assist in the completion continued page 17 .....
