TERRACE B/Y TERRACE BAY NEWS Vol. 14 No. 16 Serving The District NORTH SHORE CHRISTIAN LAY COUNCIL The development of a Christian Lay Council with representatives from churches in every community in the Lake Superior North Shore area progressed another step when officers were elected for the Lay Council. At a recent meeting of church laymen and women held in Terrace Bay, the representatives of the various North Shore churches elected Cy Pyke of Schreiber United Church as chairman; Daniel Rudiak of Trinity Anglican Church as Vice Chairman and Verl Thompson of Terrace Bay Community Church asSecretary . The aims and objectives of the Council are as follows: To develop meaningful communication be- tween churches and share resource material. Increase understanding between churches. Inter-church visi- tation. Exchange of program activities. Initiate action in joint concerns. Pulpit exchanges - minis- terial and laymen. Provide link between churches rather than build fences. Attendance at Lay Council meetings is open to all interested laymen, women and young people. Churches that have not appointed official repre- sentatives may send observers who will be most welcome. The next regular meeting of the North Shore Christian Lay Council will be held in Marathon on April 25th at 1:00 p.m., Trinity Anglican Church. Lunch will be served to those attending from other communities prior fo the meeting. Business arising from th previous minutes included discussion of quotations for a new police cruiser. A letter was received from Mr. M. Council concurred with Mr. Anderson's views. A letter from Pat Jones, President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, stated that the Legion had chosen a committee to work with Council on the July Ist celebration and would meet at their convenience. A representative of the Commercial Planning Branch, Department of Municipal Affairs, Mr. Dave Henderson, will be in Terrace Bay on April 19th. to review the local zoning situation. Advice was received from the Township lawyers, oi the authority of the problem of snow and ice removal from private sidewalks fronting stores on Simcoe Plaza.
