Rome time, after an enjoyable trip aboard the Capitol Airlines flight 488, direct to Rome. The weather was clear, with a temperature of 68 degrees. A bus tour took us from the airport to Domus Pacis (House of Peace) in Rome, After supper, a scheduled Tour of Rome by nigh* with the sites illuminated, took place. Some of the plrges visit- ®d were, Caesar's Tomb, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Foun tein of the Four Rivers, Coliseum, Palace of Justice, Esedra Square, St. Peter's Square and the &lter of the Nations. Sunday, March 21, began with a walking tour of Rome (about 2 miles) to St, Peter's Square. We lunched gt a quaint cafe, Amare Averns, near the Spanish Steps. A good section of the city was covered on the walk, and we arrived at Domus Pacis in time for supper. We sither re- tired early because of the exhausting day or attended the dance held in the Domus. Monday, March 22, commenced with a historic tour of Rome by day. We visited the Roman Forum, Catacombs, St Paul's (outside the city), the Circus Maximus, and others. An opera was scheduled for the evening at 9:00 p.m. It entailed the Exodus of the Isreselites to the Promised Land. The costumes and scenery were breathtaking. Tuesday, March 23 was a free dey and students could shop or tour on their own. Wednesday, March 24, the group. toured the inside of St. Peter's Basilica and had en audience with the Pope. The Pope shook hands with the people after addressing them, and Canadian visitors were warmly welcomed by the crowds there. In the tour afterwards, we climbed St, Peter's Dome to look out over the city. The city never seemed to end, Later we shopped on the Via del Corso, the most expensive shopping area in Rome. If we didn't shop, at least we look=- ed, as the walk was an experience in itself. On Thursdey, March 25, we boerded the bus early to tour Florence. We viewed the works of Michael Angelo and visit- ed his tomb, After more sightseeing, we arrived home late and the Schreiber group celebrated at Fredrico's near St. Peter's, On Friday, Merch 26, we boarded early to tour Naples and Pompeii. We saw its famous harbour and fishing docks. We observed no more than about 8 traffic lights in Naples, which was a picture of mass confusion. Washing was hanging out everywhere, as wash day is any day in Naples. We saw Cameo Factory, but feiled to see the ruins of Pompeii from the inside, because of a strike. Seturdsy, March 27, was the day for our departure. We regretted it greatly, as we liked the way of life. We are sure you would find no other icty of its size with such friendly people. We observed in our stay that it was not uncommon to see boys or girls walking arm in arm. Denims vere rarely seen on boys and never on girls, Turtlenecks, dress jackets, slacks, were the main epparel for the men, and mini or midi clothes with midi or mexi coats for the girls, School was held from Monday to Thursday and on Saturdey.
