FIGLIOMENI HONORED ON RETIREMENT When Vincenzo (Jimmy) Figliomeni ended his last day of work for the C.P.R. on March 23rd he was met by his family, many other relatives and fellow- employees, offering good wishes. D.Q. Hamilton, terminal superviser, in present- ing a gift from the fellow employees and officers, mentioned highlights of Jimmy's long service with the C .P.R. since 1928. One record is unique, in never missing a day's work through illness in those forty-three years. The longest time he was otf work was in 1930 when he returned to ltaly for tour months to be married and spend his honeymoon there { Jimmy's three brothers, "Little Joe", Frank and Dominic, were already established with the C.P.R. when he arrived in Schreiber and a place was soon found for him with the B. and B. (Bridge and Build- ing) Department, although he later worked with the shop section. Because of his resatility he served in many capacities = starting as a one laborer he be- came poiler maker's nelper, machifiisr helper, coal chute operator, hostler, stationary engineer - and in numerous others. ' Jimmy remembers with respect and affection, many of the early officials, but the wag of the head, and the grin, is for the boys (now long gone) who worked for a year or two with him in the shop, plagueing every day with their pranks and practical jokes. Persuaded by a former official in Schreiber, Jimmy worked for a time in Toronto and at another time considered moving to the United States where pros- pects seemed brighter, but the decision was made to remain in Schreiber. And now he and his wife are most content, having two sons married and living in town, four of their family still home, and some lively grandchildren to enjoy. In the evening a community party was held in the town hall when a gift from family and other relations was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Figliomeni's daughter Mary. Many other individual gifts were presented and congratulations expressed.
