>AGE 18 TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 21,1971 PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVES ELECT DELEGATES The Honourable Allan F. Lawrence, Minister of Mines and Northern Affairs, his wife and his campaign staff, were guests at the meeting of the Thunder Bay Progressive Con- servative Riding in Nipigon on January 10th. Mr, Lawrence was introduced by Toi Seppala of Rossport, Honorary president of the Association. Eric Rutherford of Beardmore, President, was in charge of the meeting, attended by over 70 members. Ten delegates, representing all centres in the riding, were elected with alternatives to attend the convention in Toronto. In an informel address, Mr, Lawrence said, "that people in Southern Ontario sre beginning to be aware some of the benefits they enjoy are earned through the sacrifices of those willing, and able to live in Northwestern Ontario.™ He received congratulations and approval on the establishment of the Northern Affairs Offices in this area. Mr, Lawrence said he was misquoted regarding a cut in education. He said "he proposed not a cut-back but a ceiling fixed at the present level for s few years." When it is ex- pected, the present 43 percent will level to the desirable 33 percent as the economy grows. Seppela, Miss Joyce Mushqush and Ronald Lanigan attended the P.C. meeting at Nipigon, Sunday, when Mines Minister, Allan Lawrence, was guest speaker. Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Kenney have left to spend the winter with relatives in the Kinston area. George Goodchild is a patient in the McKellar hospital, Thunder Bay. Mrs. Violet Goodchild has returned from Terrace Bay Hospital. Eugene Gerow was a business visitor to Geraldton this week. ReJa Crawley of Toronto was a business visitor here this week. The Curling Club*s Round Robin of games for the Trophy contest of the champion team of the season officially got , under way Friday evening with seven teams participating. The skips are Peter Mushqush, Chas. Todesco, Edith Hubelit, C. Wilde, Camilla Legault, Patsey Campbell and Brian Ray. The newly formed schoolhouse Committee met Tuesday evening with Clem Downey as Chairman and C.. Wilde, Secretary Treasurer. They decided to have the school building known as the Rossport Recreation Centre. It was suggested that possibly a ladies Auxiliary could be formed to work in con- Junction with the committee, It was announced that the Re- girel Library Service had been contacted and that they would come to help install a library at the school centre. The members are going to start a coffee and ceke bar to be opened on curling nights for a small fee, <A teenage group of Shirley Bouchard, Brian Ray, Peter Mushqush, Maxine Hubelit and Robert Bouchard was formed to orgenize their own activities at the centre, but subject to the older committee and known as a sub committee. The meeting was held in the School. The Water Association of the water subsribers met Wednes- day evening in the Community Hall with chairman, Albert Rouble presiding. The minutes read by Chas Todesco was adopted as read on motions of Felix Legault and Eileen Rouble. The financial statement wes adopted on motions of Ann Todesco and Prina Cerow. Correspondence from the C.P.R. and Depart- ment of lands end Forests were read and dealt with according to content. A discussion was had on the delinquent water subscribers and a ruling passed to cope with them. The com- mittee for 1971 has Felix Legault as chairman, Chas.Todesco as secretary-treasurer. Other members are Albert Rouble, John Joiner and Eugene Gerow. The auditors appointed were Mrs. K. Paulmert and Mrs. Prina Gerow.
