Minutes of the past meeting were adopted as read by Mrs. Harry Jartus, as was the treasurer's report presented by Robert Grant. A letter of thanks was sent to Peter Doig for running the film show at the December meeting. Rev. E.C. Prinsellar's suggestion that the Schreiber members assist if possible in the Rossport endeavor to con- vert the former schoolhouse into a Recreation Centre, with many uses for it proposed, was heartily endorsed. Mr. G.R. Saumur, school principal, described the new eleoctive program which is being considered for gredes 7 and 8. The students are completely involved in this and they have listed the 12 subjects they are interested in, outside of the school curriculum. Among these are merchandising, service stations, Lands and Forests, snowmobiling, operation and equipment, arts and crafts, hairdressing, wood working, & choir of both boys and girls, teacher aid occupation, J guitar lessons, welding of smell motors and surprisingly, home economice for both girls end boys. Four teachers will be sble to work on the program which will entail an hour and 20 minutes each week, in a two months! cycle. The primary step in the program is to win the response of those in business in the community, or, with the ability in certain crafts or trades, willing to share and encourage a new development in education and a practical method. Students are given a first and second choice in the areas in which they are interested. At the completion of the first cycle the second would begin, when the student would have the privilege of contiruing in his present one, or, changing to another interest. The program, obviously is still in the planning stage, Mr. Saumur continued, but the enthusiesm of the students is contegious and the staff are eager to see its inplemtation. "Speaking of daily school routine Mr, Saumur said, with the co~operation of the staff, Continued next column eee ° students being bussed in will be taken into the school im- medietely on arrival when weather demands it, but he suggested that local students should not arrive until shortly before school-gtarting time." He also requested that telephone calls +o the school be confined to absolutely necessary ones, as? he teaches as well as administrates and his secretary must relay all of these calls to him. Mr. Seumur peid tribute to the town council who immediately responded to his suggestion that approaches to the school be cleared of snow. "The Safety Officer of Thunder Bay, Mr. Saumur said, is interested in speaking to the association and this could be a feature of a later meeting." . Following the meeting Reve E.C. Prinselear ran a film, The Rise and Fall of The Great Lake. Prior to the meeting, parents visited classrooms and teachers and later enjoyed coffee hour.
