PAGE 18 TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 5, 1970 WEEKLY REPORT FROM THE SCHREIBER DETACHMENT 0F THE ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE Schreiber Detachment personnel had a busy week that began with a complaint of threatening. Investigation in this occurrence disclosed the alleged offence occurred in Thunder Bay City and was referred to their department for further aotion, On October 25, 1970, a bicycle was reported stolen from a residence on Mary Street, Schreiber and investigation reveal- ed bicycle not stolen but taken by a brother of the complain- ant. : Once again, some irresponsible person (s) have seen fit to remove property that does not belong to them. Two flags were stolen from theDepartment of Highways yard at Rossport during the night of October 25-26, 1970. An unknown quantity of gas and several tools were stolen from the Esso Bulk Plant at Schreiber during the same period. Also stolen from the bridge repair site at Rossport were two amber flashing Warning lights and two flare pots as well as another flare pot from the Selim bridge site. Vandals broke twenty panes of glass and slashed screens on the windows of the Junior Ranger Camp site at Whitesand Lake. Investigation is being carried out at this time. Information relating to the aforementioned occurrences would be apprecisa- ted. 9 A Break, Enter and Theft occurred at Whitesand Lake Cabins on October 28, I970 and the two subjects responsible were apprehended by O0.P.P. at Upsala. Gilbert Serge Alex Vantour, age 23, Angus, Ont. and Adrien Couture, age 37, Alliston, Ont. were charged with Break, Enter and Theft. Constable S.R._ Jones of this detachment was the investigating officer. Assistance by public minded citizens assisted greatly in bringing this case to a successful conclusion. One report of an alleged "Assault" was reported on October 30, 1970 and was dealt with without any charges being laid. On October 30, 1970, Robert Gery Arnold, age 23 and Dennis Lavoie, age 23 wanted for Wilful Damega at Upsala, Ontario were apprehended at Schreiber on the Greyhound Bus by Corporal M. Kulmatycki and returned to Upsala. Four separate thefts from parked auto and business premises were reported and are presently under investigation. Articles stolen consisted of a case of beer; one wheel barrow (recover- ed); one tire and rim and $90.00 in cash. A quantity of liquor was seized from Ivan Donald Johnson, Terrance Gordon Black and Eddie Louis Comeau. All sub jects have been charged under the provisions of the Liquor Control Act. On October 3I, 1970, Otto Strasser, owner of Highway Service, Schreiber reported his business premises broken into overnight and a sum of money stolen. Investigation in this case is continuing. Two Schreiber youths reported being fired at with air pistols while walking along the street. Subjects recponsible (Juveniles) have been apprehended and charges will be laid. On the traffic scene, two minor collisions were reported, resulting in approximately $375.00 damage on October 28, I970 An auto driven by Hilda Elizabeth Relph, Schreiber, collided with one driven by Jean Gagnon, Manitouwadge and the other collision involved autos driven by Brian John Birch, Schreiber and Henry Pinion, also of Schreiber. No injuries were sustained in either collision. Traffic on the Trans Canada Highway #17 was disrupted when the highway was washed out six miles east of Terrace Bay and at Rossport as a result of heavy rains. A note regarding the removal of Warning Devices at Con- struction or repair sites: - The removal of these warning devices constitutes a serious offence and creates a poten~ tially dangerous situation for motorists. These warning devices are placed at these sites for the safety of the motoring public. Anyone having any information regarging the responsible parties is urged to advise the police as soon as possible. TODAY'S CHILD BY HELEN ALLEN This laddie with the winning smile is Ian. He will soon be two. He is a happy, cheerful boy who plays contentedly by himself and gets on well with other children. He loves attention, but does not demand it. Ian was born prematurely, but has come on well and is in good health. He is alert and active and keeps himself busy exploring. He loves the outdoors. He is a bit slow in talking, but since he seems to have made up for his prematurity in other areas, he is expected to catch up in language development, too. Ian's background is Austrian, Yugoslavian and Scot- tish. He is medium-size for his age, with blue eyes, reddish-blonde hair and fair skin. This appealing child needs parents who will not push him or set teo high expectations for him. but will enjoy him for his sunny personality.
