Most anybody can tell to look at the soil if it is too coarse or too compact and thus take steps to correct the problem, but soil chemistry also plays a part. If certain elements are not in the proper balance a lot of time and money can be wasted put- ting on fertilizer which is not doing the plants any good. A soil analysis, performed by the Ontario Agri- cultural College, can be arranged through the local Horticultural Society = Mr. John Steen has a supply of the boxes for sending soil sampled so that you will have the results back before spring planting time. To prepare a soil sample for analysis, take scoops from several locations in your garden going down to { a depth of six or seven inches and mix it all together well. About a pint of this mixture is required for the analysis. If one part of the garden is different from the rest, a separate sample should be submitted for that part. TERRACE BAY NEWS !
