CREST THEATRE Schreiber High School played host on October 22nd to the Theatre Hour Company, an Ontario Dep- artment of Educatioh sponsored acting troupe work= ing from the St. Lawrence Arts Centre. Presenting an excellent program of plays, songs and poems on Canadian themes they captivated the entire audience. The poetry heard during the hour long show was written by Canadian students of var= ious age groups. "The Ecstasy of Rita Joe", a play written by British Columbia's playwright George Ryga was particualrly well received. In their eighth year as a touring group the com- pany presents a varied and fast-paced program with material suited for all age groups. During their twen- ty week bus tour the company gives performances throughout Ontario schools, spending eight weeks of this time in Northern Ontario. | With so little opportunity afforded us to see live | professinal productions it is a treat to view such an | experienced and talented troupe of actors. We hope | that they will return again to give others the opport- unity to enjoy their performance . CREST THEATRE PLAYERS TEACHER OF THE WEEK For Mr. O'Hagan, who resides in Rossport, Schreiber High School is his first experience in the teaching profession. He teaches Data Processing and Geography . # Before coming to Schreiber High School, he worked in Waterloo at the Mutual Life Co. for three years, and at Seagrams for an additional two years. He enjoys outdoor sports and the outdoor life provided in our open spaces. To him, the people, as said many times before by others, seem to be friendly. Mr. O'Hagan, his wife, and their sixteen month old baby girl are extended a cordial welcome to our area. CROSS COUNTRY MEET The inter-school cross country meet was held in Schreiber on Wednesday, October 21st. Teams from Chapleau, Geraldton, Marathon, Nip Rock, Schre- iber and Terrace Bay participated. In the junior girls division, Nip Rock placed first with 37 points, Schreiber second with 60 points and Geraldton third with 63 points. The fastest time in this division was run by Janet Zwir of Schreiber with a time of 8:39 minutes over a 1 1/2 mile course . In the junior boys division Schreiber placed first with 25 points followed by Geraldton and Chapleau with 48 and 79 points respectively. The fastest time for this 2 1/2 mile course was made by Andrew Kow-! al of Geraldton. He ran this course in 12:27 minutes. Geraldton placed first in the senior girls division! with 43 points. Nip Rock followed with 67 points and Schreiber with 68 points. Frances Blanch of Mara thon held the best time of 8:16 minutes. In the senior boys, Chapleau placed first with | a total of 36 points. Geraldton followed with 5 points and Nip Rock with 54 points. David Nelson ran the four mile course in 19:15 minutes. Trophies were presented to the individual winners and to the winning teams.
