OCTOBER 29, 1970 RINK COMMITTEE - Cont'd from page 14 ..... the new season in the arena. Letters were sent to organizations, schools and clubs in the town to consult with the rink manager, John St. Jean, well in advance of dates for events which they plan for the rink. He has a schedule for fixed events, around which other dates may be set. The first hockey game for. the season was set for Sunday, November 8th, junior game between Red Rock and Schreiber. The skate-a-thon in aid of minor hockey was planned for November 6th and 7th. The committee is presently asking for applications for the position of ticket seller during the season. The purchase of new equipment for the rink was discussed and among these new nets were agreed were necessary. Regular meeting nights will be set at the next meeting. Bill Campbell presided for the meeting held in the home of Pat Newton, secretary-treasurer, with others present including Len Huard, Earl Welbourne, committee members; councillor Harold Fischer and John St. Jean, rink manager and Alex Power, vice chairman. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED AT ST. ANDREW'S St. Andrew's United Church, Schreiber, cele- 'brated its 85 Anniversary on October 18th, with Rev. R. Nagus of Nipigon guest speaker for the religious service. ; The first representative of the Presbyterian Church in Schreiber, somewhere in the 1800, was Rev. John Pringle of St. Paul's Church, Port Arthur, who later became known as "Pringle of the Yukon." In 1886 a Mr. Hay became the first resident mini- ster, followed by Mr. Scott, W.A. Merkley and Mr. Brycoe, all theological students. Meanwhile a church had been built and opened during the mini- stry of W.A. Merkley in 1887. During the ministry, in 1889 of Mr. Willaim Neilly, the church's Ladies' Aid Society was formed with a membership of twelve. In 1892 this group realized $160.00 from a concert and bazaar. During the ministry of Rev. T. Moodie, formerly with the China Inland Mission, a branch of the Women's Missionary Society was formed in 1912 with Mrs. Moodie as president and Mrs. Henry Davis as secretary.
