OCTOBER 8, 1970 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 "THE OWL'S HOOT" THOUGHT OF THE WEEK Description of a great man: "When | met him, | was looking down. When | left him, | was looking up." UNIVERSITY EVENING On~Wednesday, October 14th, Representatives from Ontario Universities and the Department of University Affairs will be holding information sess- ions at Schreiber High School from 6:45 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Students, parents and interested persons from Rossport, Schreiber and Terrace Bay are invited to attend. The evening will be comprised of three sessions, each forty minutes in length. Visitors may choose the three University presentations they wish to hear. Coffee will be served following the sessions to provide an opportunity for informal dialogue with the University representatives. EVALUATION SYSTEM On Tuesday, Oetober 6th, students of Schreiber High School explained to their parents the evalua- tion system which would be in effect for the 1970- 71 school year. The students are evaluated on day-to-day work rather than scheduled examinations. It is believed that the daily measure of a student's performance is more valid than that of a "pressured" examination period. The day-to-day work will include: class- room participation, projects, tests, notebooks, and oral presentations. First year students will receive reports in October, March and June. Second, third, fourth and fifth year students will receive reports in November, March and June. In all subjects, the total of the marks from the first term, plus twice the mark re- ceived in the second term, plus twice the mark received in the final term will be divided by five to obtain the final mark. This system requires that a student work steadily throughout the school year . Regular attendance and satisfactory progress in each term is required in order for a student to have a successful year. Parents wishing to discuss the evaluation system are invited to contact the princiapl by telephaning 824-2555. TEACHER OF THE WEEK - MR. For the past few years Mr. Bishop has taught high school in Belleville. Although he spent five years in the east Mr. Bishop prefers the Northern country.
