The Grand Auction was bigger than last year and provided as much in the line of merchandise as en- tertainment. There were even those dramatic mo- ments when for the sake of a set of red underwear friendships were risked and people were heard to raise their own bids! Bidding was brisk and all items were sold. : Saturday afternoon the Arena was transformed in a colorful display of sales tables and information booths pertaining to the work and function of the church in the community. A very informative display of books, | posters and folders as well as films and film strips attracted a constant stream of visitors. Popularity of the displays indicated an interest on the part of people in the work of the church in various areas of human concern ranging from social issues such as poverty, pollution, econpmic and social justice to drugs and other related issues. In the evening a large Penny Auction drew, capa- city crowds which was followed by a very successful Folk Festiyal . The audience paid tribute to the various local entertainers with enthusiastic applause and rapt attention. The closing dance which was given free as a ges- ture of thanks for the tremendous support the Fall Fair had received and was well attended by the younger set, which obviously enjoyed the good music | and wonderful time which concluded the events. Organizers of the Fair, which was sponsored by St. Andrew's United Church, were heard to suggest that this event has grown to be a community affair re=- quiring the co-operation of other organizations be- sides St. Andrew's United Church to maintain the quality and scope for future fairs.
