PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS SEPTEMBER 24, 1970 REBEKAHS MEET SEPT. 23 Noble Grand Mrs. Norma Fummerton, at the regular meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge on Sept. 9th, welcomed members back after summer recess. Vice Grand Mrs. Beth Macadam, reported sen- ding many cards and flowers during the summer and said sick members and those in Pinewood Court had been visited by a committee. Mrs. Helen Wallace said she has samples of Christmas cards and urged members to place orders. Donations were made to the Sudbury Relief Fund and to the Navy League of Canada. Mrs. Fummerton reported on a luncheon served to students en route to the United Nations in July and thanked those who worked and donated. A letter of thanks was sent to a local store for supplying favors for the students. Mrs. Mary Husband gave an interesting account of the District Association meeting held in Thunder Bay . The date for installation of officers was set for Saturday, October |0th. A letter of appreciation was received from Sch- reiber High School for a bursary which was pre- sented by the Lodge to Estelle Chicoine at Commen- cement Exercises. Another thank-you letter was re- ceived from Miss Julie Jacobsen expressing the United Nations students' appreciation of the hos- pitality received here. A bench ordered by the Lodge arrived during the summer and presented to the school playground. The Lodge will observe its forty-fifth anniversary with a Charter Night social and a penny auction at the next meeting on September 23rd. Mrs. Gladys Hamilton will convene the program. W.i. RESUMES REGULAR MEETINGS Mrs. Wesley Clemens welcomed and introduced Mrs. Phillip Boyko and Mrs. Melvin Dolph, guests at the September meeting of Schreiber Women's Institute. Mrs.Boyko of the MacIntyre Branch is district president and Mrs.Dolph of Jumbo Gardens is 2nd Vice-president. Both spoke on the work and - widening interests of the association. Mrs .Clemens reported presenting the Schreiber Institute scholarships and placques to Roseann Speziale of the Separate School and Lynn Drake, Public School . Mrs .Russell Macadam acted as secretary in the absence of Mrs.Charles Todesco who is ill. Continued next column ... Upsala Women's Institute invited members to their International Day, October 4, beginning at 2 p.m. Centennial gowns are requested, this being the 50th convention year. The following resolutions were approved: that the Ontario Department of Health and Restaurant Owners' Association be urged to have all waitresses neatly hair netted when serving the public; to urge C .B.C. to have additional T.V. channels placed in Northwest ern Ontario and to improve quality of programs; to request the Home Economics Branch to inaugurate a beginners' course for girls in the 10-12 age group and award certificates of merit. A letter was read from the Thunder Bay office of . the Dept. of the Secretary of State explaining dis- cussions which are now taking place on proposed new Citizenship Act and asking Schreiber W.l. to spon- sor a dialogue on the subject. A wreath was ordered from the Schreiber branch of the Royal Canadian Legion to be placed on Memorial Day. Mrs. Ken Williamson reported sending cards for various occasions during. the summer. Members were asked to answer October roll call with postage stamps, Get Well or Sympathy cards. Mrs. Clemens reported the bench, bought by the W.I. for the town plaza, has been positioned. A long time member, Mrs. Ernest O'Connor, was welcomed back after being away for some years.
