( MEN'S CURLING THIS WEEK IN CURLING After a rugged play-down series over the weekend, lionteith and his hardy lads established their right to represent the Terrace Bay Curling Club in the Marathon Invitational Bonspiel. That big competition will occur over this weekend, and we hope the Monteith rink sustains their present good form throughout their matches. Leading up to the sudden-death final, Craig and Sinkins went down decisively before Monteith and Boudreau, Boudreau was chopped down just as drastically in the finals, All of which goes to prove, what every curler already knows: when you're off - you're off, The New Year's Bonspiel is coming down to a rapid conclusion. Olsen plays Pinecult in the consolations finals tonight (Thursday) and Farrow and Dodge will tangle in the winners' semi-finals on Friday, The play- off for winners will be scheduled for early next week, The Hiram Walker event is alsg currently rolling with some interesting results being posted, Haughn is out on the win side at the expense of Boudreau; MacDonald edged Knauff, and Byers dumped Lohr, This event will be taking on keen interest in next week's semie finals, and if the winners fall on the right shifts, we may be able to schedule a play- off next week, What's next? The Imperial Bank trophy will be put on the block next, and rinks will be drawn up shortly. This bonspiel will be run on the draw ba ia Theat is to say, rinks are pulled out of o hat, After that, we have the Hudson's Bay Pini) to shoot at, Depend- ing upon how well the weather holds out, we have in store several novelty events which will be explained ot oo later dante and run off as long as the weather permits. The next generation of curlers has been the subject of much club consideration recently. It is to our gest interest to have a group of young chaps coming up who will provide interesting competition locally in the future, and who will well represent us in inter-club competition, ; This S~turday, Ed Pinenult and Jack Wellings will take any interested local high school boys onto the ice and give them instructions in the gnome and the opportunity to curl practice stones for an hour or two, If this is successful, it will be scheduled ns no regular weekly feature, The time for the Seturday meeting has not been set, but Jack ~nd Ed will take care of the details and get the young chaps out. At least 12 and perhaps 18 are expected to take up the the invitation.
