Lt.-Gen. K. S. Thimayya, Indian chairman of the neutral nations repatriation commission, said 30 South Koreans wiil be called up for interviews Saturday. But there was no indication whether the ses- sions would be held. Thimayya- suspended the Allied explanation program today after 25 of 30 prisoners insisted on mak- ing their own explanations to Al- lied interviewing officers. He said that if the PoWs refuse to accept NNRC conditions for the interviews "I'm afraid the explana- tions will come!to an end." RED REQUEST REFUSED The Indian general also announ- ced that a Red uest to inter- view 250 anti-Red Koreans Satur- day was turned down because the prisoners refused to leave their compound. LESLIE COLES A large number of friends as well as business associates 'at The Daily Times-Gazette and General Printers Limited attended the fun- eral service at the Luke-McIntosh Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thurs- day, for A. Leslie Coles, 115 Me- Laughlin Boulevard, who died last esday. The n and beautiful floral tributes indicated the high esteem in which the deceased, who was night superintendent of The Times- Gazette, was held by all who knew him. Executives and members of the staff of the two companies acted as flower bearers. The pallbearers were T. L. Wil- son, G. H. Campbell, Clifford Sew- ell, NO SLACKENING The Chamber of Commerce re- ported to The Times-Gazette today that there is no foundation whatso- ever to recent rumor which was current of a slackening-off in in- dustrial activities in Oshawa. This, no doubt, said L. W. McConkey, secretary of the Chamber, will be welcome news to everyone, and es- pecially to the working men and to the retail trade, at this time of the year. STAR CACTUS The notorious "smelling cactus' has finally been named. Howard Hartley, RR 2, Oshawa, told the Times-Gazette today that his fam- ily has had a 'Star Cactus" for years. He too stated that the flow- er, pale buff with dark brown spots, has a terrible odor: To smell it, however, one has to get close to the open bloom itself. . Hart- ley also said that his mother's Christmas cactus, which blooms from early December to January, is now in full flamboyant bloom. SCHOOL AREA OUT On Monday, ratepayers of Ux- bridge Township voted 361-219 in favor of dissolving the Public School Area Board. Only 22 per- cent of the eligible voters cast a ballot on the question. It is expect- ed that Council will take the nec- essary steps to prepare a bylaw which be Jase on Department of Education for a fi- nal decision. If the Department agrees with the majority vote, the Tounicipality will once again return to the old system where each school has its own separate trus- tee board. H Cowley. Harold Parrott d J. B. Jackson. Rey. H. A. Mellow, minister of Northminster United Church, con- ducted the service. Interment was in the Oshawa Union Cemetery. Blackler, 57, 237 Bloor Street West, was severely in- jured shortly after 9 p.m. Thurs- day when he walked into the path of a car on Simcoe Street South, Maynard T. Nelson, 37, driver of the car, told investi ating officer. Sergeant E. Barker that Blackler, crossing Simcoe at Fisher Street from the east side, seemed to ap- ar suddenly two feet in front of is left front fender. He stopped the car to find the man lying on the road beside his left rear fender. Blackler, rushed to the hospital, was found to have multiple frac- tures to his right arm and leg. His condition this morning was report- ed as fair. Dr. J. E. Rundle and Dr. D. E. Sturgis attended the in- jured man. Mr. Blackler's wife, daughter and son-in-law were walk- ing with him when the accident occurred. They had crossed Simcoe Street ahead of him and could not say exactly how the car came to strike him. Mr. Blackler's glasses were found 38 feet north of the bloodstains on the pavement. His right shoe, rip- ped from his foot, lay 15 feet away on the east curb. Search Country - Roads For Auto Members of the Uxbridge and Whitby detachments of the OPP devoted a good deal of time Thurs- day night to a search for 1949- model auto with a bullet hole in a rear fender. Officers at the Uxbridge detach- ment said, this morning, that the auto contained two young lovers. They discounted the suggestion that the auto had anything to do with the abduction of a young Scar- boro Township girl. Police in a patrol car fired at the car after it failed to. stop on a concession road, eight miles south of Uxbridge. The. car was sighted parked near a barn, but when pol- ice signalled the driver they want- ed to question him, he swung the car onto the road and headed north. The patrol car gave chase, but lost the car on a country road. The car was last reported eastbound on the Ninth Line, Pickering Town- CAMPAIGN (Continued from Page 1) ject, and expressed the hope that the campaign would, meet with Youths Warned About Speeding '"We are not going to have teen- agers speeding around the city streets, especially after being warn- ed and fined," Magistrate F. §.
