Mrs. May O'Brien has been un- der the weather with a bad cold. Dick Avis, senior, also is quite ill. Antoinette Korcyzyinska had her operation on Tuesday, October 27, which was successful and now she is on the recouperation list and doing very nicely. We are happy to report that to date there has been no serious re percussions the episode which involved James Hern and three hunters in # shooting affair at the scout camp over a week | ago. Mr. Hern suffered quite' a number of bruises and a gash in his head but is doing very nicely now. TURKEY SUPPER Wednesday night Dunbarton United Church had its annual turkey dinner which was well at-| tended and all enjoyed a lovely din- | ner. This was followed by a very enjoyable program under direction of A. Crowhurst, who is the choir « leader of the church. It was very nice to _ee four of our local boys on TV last Thurs- day night. HALLOWE'EN PARTY The Dunbarton Kiwanis Club and the Junior Police executive stag- ed a Hallowe'en Party for the chil- dren of the district in East Wood- ands Hall last Saturday night. _ The Kiwanis provided films, mus- ie, hot dogs, cocoa and apples for the children and the Junior Police Club supplied apples and candy. His cheery smile assured us that he is getting along just fine. Mr. and Mrs. Hec. Barry and family visited friends in New- castle. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family of Mrs. Arthur Sweetman who passed away recently. HALLOWE'EN PARTY A Hallowe'en party was held in the basement of Grace United Church on Friday evening, Octo- ber 30. The room was gaily deco-- rated in orange and black streamers. black cats and carved out pumpkins. Over 50 children came in cos- {tume, and games and stunts were enjoyed by both young and old. Mrs. H. Kane and Mrs. Innes had the difficult task of judging the costumes, and a number of¥ prizes were awarded. One of the funny stunts worth mentioning was the 'Mummy stunt', first prize going to Mrs. Clarence Carter and Mr. Doug Aldred. This stunt calls for Attendance led. The next night service will be on November 15 when the Dunbarton Kiwanis Club will be in charge. The refreshment committee served a very tasty lunch at the close of the meeting. It would seem as though it was a good move when it was decided to hold the meetings in the church | hall (which is used as a school ' room for Grade 1) instead of the | school as it is much more cen- tral. diss Mortimer's room was the recipient of the honour banner for | having the largest representation of parents at the meeting, A ban-- quet is planned for Friday night, November 6, at the Church Hall for the 1953 graduation pupils. Anyone may attend the banquet by purchasing a ticket from either Mrs. Brown or Mrs. Dorset. The graduation pupils are urgent to pick up their tickets and notify the Home and School executive as to whether they can attend or not. rs. Though it may have been a pretty hard thing to do the mischief mak- ers that usually prowl about on Hallowe'en were very good this year and for which many of the elderly ' people as well as others are very thankful. Very little if any damage has been reported here in the village though some nearby communities report much destruction. Quite a number trick-or-treaters called with their varied weird get- ups, which caused many a laugh. Mrs. Doug Gerron and family spent the weekend with her par- ents in Sunderland. Bert Raines and Mev. Gerrow of Raglan have gone north to try their luck at bringing home the venison. Mrs. Gerrow and baby are spending a few days with Mrs, Raines and baby in their absence. Mrs. K. Caverly,and Mrs. Jim Smale contributed a fitting spiration 'of the worship period, and were accompanied by Miss Norah Horn. Mrs. A. E. Billett read the script and Mrs. F. J. Reed'gave a helpful devotional talk which contained many fine thoughts, and concluded with a short prayer. Most successful indeed was the party, held in the Church follow- ing choir practice. Games, con- tests and refreshments in the Hal- lowe'en theme rounded out a gay and enjoyable evening. New homes in every stage of erection are continually going up, so that if one lets several weeks pass be- fore visiting the area, a surprise will be the result. : Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler and family moved into their new home on Colborne Street (a continuation of the Colborne Street up-town) just recently. They have sold their home on Harmony Rd. South to Mr. Robert Moon, who, with his family, will soon move into their new home.
