When we' read of the an- cient Israelites, we find that they, too, were confronted by domestic difficulties. Husbands and wives did not always agree; children did not always grow up to become fine, moral men and women, of whom their parents could be proud. What do the Scriptures say re- garding these things? Read Deu- teronomy 6:4-9. 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: "And these words, which I com- mand thee this day, shall be in thine heart: "And thou shalt teach them dil- igently unto thy children, d shalt talk of them when thou sit- test in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." God is love, and if love rules a home, how then can there be dis- cord? Isn't this the ideal of the" THE SUBJECT 'of founding and |it? Scriptures Teach Love And Obedience To God Christian "home, as God planned |y We have had the episode of the |i Pharisees' tempting Jesus by ask- ing Him His views on divorce in a recent lesson, but it is particu- larly pertinent to this lesson also. "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?" they asked Him. His answer was: 'Have ye not read, that He which made them at the begin- ning made them maile and female. And said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh. "Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What there- fore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." It is almost inconceivable that two gersons who have been joined together with the solemn marriage ceremony that all religions use can break the vows they took -- fre- quently for trivial causes -- the vow to cleave to each other in sickness and health, in richés or poverty, as long as they both shall live. Broken homes are the 'cause of so much tragedy.
