Only minutes remamed in the Toronto-Hamilton game Monday when the Argos developed butter fingers deep in the Tiger-Cat zone. With the score 14-12, Hamilton's Ray Truga fumbled the ball and Sculler Joe Scudero pounced on it only to lose it. Three other Argos made a bee-line for the ball, but it took another bounce and landed back in Truant"s arms on the Ham- ilton 13-yard line. The Argos had | to call it a day. | It wasn't spectacular ball for the 17,000 fans. The Cats lacked of- fensive wer and won only by taking advantage of Argo mistakes. Nobby Wirkowski paced a strong Toronto passing attack. Bernie Custis, whom coach Carl | Voyles used at quarterback after firing import star Bob Celeri last week, scored Hamilton's first ma- jor after a bad Toronto snap on third down gave Tiger-Cats pos- session on the Argo 15. Quincy Armstrong counted the second | when he blocked a kick and picked up the ball to score. The Argos are tied for| second place with the Rough Ri-| ders and the Alouettes with one | win each. | In Ottawa Saturday the Rough | Riders shattered a powerful Alou- ette passing att ack and broke | through for four converted touch- | downs and a single before 1,000] fans. | The Roughie assault was led by | Tom O'Malley, who quarterbacked | Ottawa to its 1951 Grey Cup win in his first season of Canadian | football. { Avatus Stone triple-threat back- fielder alleged by Chicago Card- inals to have jumped a Chicago | contract, was the big factor in| Ottawa's victory with his two touchdowns and a single. Flying { | Transport Black Bass 500 Miles to Long Lake COCHRANE--In one fo the long- est journeys ever undertaken by small black bass fingerlings, in Ontario, 1,000 three-inch minnows were 'delivered recently to Long Lake, in this area, from the On- tario Department of Lands and | Forests hatchery at Westport. All| were in excellent condition after the 500-mile trip. This has not been regarded as bass area, most of the fish caught being pike or pickerel. Recently, the Department decided to try stocking bass and a close check is being kept on the experimental planting. It has been found in: Southern Ontario that generally, the large- mouth bass will survive in warmer waters than even its smallmouth cousin, The fish is an excellent game specimen, striking readily at most live and artificial baits and growing to fairly substantial size rapidly. Tourist operators in this area are pleased with the new exper- iment and point out that it would be of great economic benefit if the bass did find this northern dis- trict to their liking.
