FRIDAY, 'DECEMBER 24, 1948 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE " PAGE SEVENTEEN Westmount Cubs | Make Imaginary Tour Of World Correspond Westmount, De¢ 24--The 1st B. Westmount Cubs enjoyed an ima- ginary rip around the world at their annual Christmas party held in Westmount. School last night. They received their tickets at the station as they filed through the turnpike (two chairs back to back) and, lining up in relay for- mation, boarded the "C.N.R. Flyer" for New York. The conductor punched the tickets of the white six, winners of the "C.N.R. Flyer" relay, and after Akela read them a Christmas story, the. Cubs com- peted again in "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" relay to England. The tawny six arrived first and, while their tickets were being punched, decided that they would like to visit Sherwood Forest. All the Cubs accompanied them and they played a game called "Are You There, Robin Hood?" Bagherra and Akela demonstrated the game. Assuming the names of Robin Hood and King John respectively, they knelt on the floor clasping left hands and clutch- ing a roll of newspaper in the right hand. After Rikki blindfolded them, Robin Hood barked "Are you there, King John?" King John hazarded, "Yes" and ducked his head as Robin Hood swung with his paper club. It was then King Johns turn and they called alter- nately for a one-minute round. When Akela asked for volunteers, all the Cubs replied in one voice, The laughter and shouts that ac- companied the game almost drown- ed out the warning that the plane for India left in five minutes. The Cubs quickly "Crossed Lon- don Bridge" and scrambled aboard the aeroplane. Kim, the steward- ess on the aeroplane, handed out mimeographed . song sheets and Rikki, the pilot, led the singing. The Cubs' singing of "Jingle Bells" embodied all the spirit of Ci t= mas and, as each sixer called Yor his favorite song by the number on the song sheet, all the Clubs re- sponded with an enthusiasm that carried them quickly through "John Brown's Flivver," "Ging Gang Goolie," "That Is Our Pack," "One More River to Cross," 'Sweet Little Susie" and on down the list. . When India was sighted, the Cubs 'disembarked so hastily that Rikki didnt have a chance to-land the aeroplane--no . casualties. It was 'midnight in the jungle so they built a large campfire and Bagher- ra read, with the aid of a flash- light, the story of "Rikki Tikki Tavi" from the "Jungle Book," by Kipling, The jungle play, "The Death of Sheri Khan," was then acted out by the Cubs in the moon- light--a flashlight beam shining on & wooden moon. At sunrise, the Cubs rushed up 'the gangplank of the "Slow Boat to Ching," But they were becalmed and, lining up in two rows, each team tried to get the rations from the centre of the room. They stayed in China just long enough for a game of Chinese tag and then 'took a submarine back to Vancou- ver. The Cubs did some last-minute shopping at Vancouver during the game called "Christmas Rush." This was the last game and the excite- ment, prevalent all evening, reach- ed its highest pitch as the Cubs laughed and cheered in unrestrain- ed enthusiasm during the compe- tition. Ray Harrison won the prizégtor having the most punches on his ticket, each representing a point gained during the evening's com- petitions. All the Cubs surrendered their tickets for presents and can- dies, the latter of which were given by the Scout and Cub Mothers' Auxiliary. The evening closed with Cub Sil- ence followed by the grand howl. David Weldon, tawny sixer, led the closing moonlight grand howl and as each Cub joined in wholehearted- ly, it expressed a sincere "thank yow' and bore testimony to the suc- | cess of the evening. The Cub leaders were: Kim, Mary McLean; Rikki, Gwen Wilson; Bagherra, Muriel Wilson, and Akela, Molly Simons. ! There will be no Cub meeting on December 30.
